My alarm clock was made in china.
My minidisc player was made in japan though.

I forgot that I also have a Sony Ericsson POS. Low resolution pictures, not worth the money to include the camera in it. I think that it's worth 250 bucks because it has bluetooth, retarded technology that always sounds like crap and fails sometimes and because of this new battery technology that lasts for a long time. Because the phone is slow as hell loading up java games and the sound is alright for rigntones and stuff.

I dropped this baby a couple of times, but still works, I don't care too much because I have insurance on it from Cingular.

About as reliable as the next moon appearing. None of that American electronics crap (not considering that home electronics hasn't been made in the US in probably 20 years!)

sony products have useless crap that can only be used with sony products..

example: sony memory stick, damn talk about pricey..

See how many clicks it takes you to find anything you need on the sony site.....
(Good luck)

I like Sony stuff. In my lifetime, I've had a:

Sony Walkman (11 years old, still works)
Sony Component rack Amplifer and CD Player (8 years old, still works)
Sony Car CD Player (7 years old, my Dad now has it, still works)
Sony desktop stereo system with 3 CD changer (7 years old, still works. The speakers suck on it, though, but then they always sounded lousy.)
Sony VAIO PC (7 years old. The Zip drive broke on it after 18 months, which really isn't Sony's fault. Zip drive quality at the time sucked in general. I still have parts of that computer running on my new computers.)
Sony VAIO Monitor (7 years old, still works, and I use it daily on one of my computers. I should really get a flat screen LCD, though.)
Sony DVD Player (3 years old, still works)
Sony 4 head HiFi VCR (3 years old, still works)
Sony WEGA TV (3 years old, still works and the picture is still perfect after being used daily)
A jacket with a Sony logo on it (OK, that's not REALLY a Sony product. It still works, though 🙂 )

Perhaps I've just been lucky, but all of the Sony products that I've bought have been trouble-free.

My relatives also have a lot of Sony stereo and TV stuff, too, and it all works great. I recommended the purchase of most of those products, too, because I feel comfortable that they won't come back to haunt me!

I have a Sony STR-7065A stereo receiver, that i found in the attic.

It was staticy at first, but when I cleaned the dust out it works perfectly.

I am the third owner, its a 1970 model. Thats what I call dependable. And it kicks ass in the style department.

high quality sony products that are made in japan seem fine to me...

😱 to each his own i guess... glad you like it.

have:

S50 Digital cam - 3 years old
F717 Digital cam - 2 years old
U20 Digital cam - 6 months old
TRV22 miniDV camcorder - year old
46" Wide screen - month old
2 clock radios - 2 years old each

for my car:
4 x 50 watt car amp 4 years old
10 band eq with spectrum analyzer 4 years old

pretty funny that Sony is not considered with high regard in Japan like Corona is considered crappy in Mexico (at least friends who have been to Japan and Mexico have told me)...go figure....

you don't like its weak bass eh?

to me it means more clarity to me. let it break in a couple of weeks or so, hook it up to a decent sound source and you'll notice the difference between those and say... the koss KSC35...

i had one sony product fail on me. it was a little one-speaker portable radio i had when i was a kid. it lasted several years of my abuse, and it's identical replacement is still working (probably 15 years old now).

in addition to those radios, my immediate family has owned 5 sony discmans, 4 walkmans, 1 digital camera, 1 camcorder, 1 subwoofer, 1 VCR, 1 DVD player, 1 TV, 1 car headunit, and maybe some other stuff i can't think of off the top of my head. all have worked without issue. i do hear stories of people having trouble with sony but i personally haven't experienced it.

edit: add to the mix one set of V6 headphones, and numerable cheapo headphones, still working.

You have to think considering how many products they sell compare to other name brands, you're gonna see a lot more problems, but the percentage is probably still the same.

i've had good luck with almost all sony products except for their Discmans. I had 2 discmans go bad about 6 months after I bought them, but those were the older models when the had 3 second ESP and no ESP

no i am not really a basshead.. 888s imo have shrill highs and skewed soundstage and seriously lack midrange (not really a surprise, many earbuds are just like that)
i prefer mx400/500 sound, and better yet modded koss the plugs are the best ones i tried so far. some claim they are up to 50% of matching the glrorious ety's levels, but i cant say much as i never had a chance to hear etys 🙁
i have not used 888s extensively tho, i just borrowed them from a friend of mine and they didnt make me wanna go out and get me a pair. IIRC, the diaphragm is made up of some very delicate material and prone to damage thus requiring proper care. the only time i would use earbuds are when i am jogging (i use hd-580 and cd-3000 when i am home) so these would do me no good even if i happen to like the sound 🙁 🙁

Makes sense to me, the average Japanese person is more intelligent than the average American (no flames please, going by avg. IQ scores)

Sony is too pricey and quality often isn't as good as others. And all their propriety crap svcks azz.
How dumb can a company be that decides to make a camera that saves photos and video on a floppy disk?

The last Sony product I owned was a cassette Walkman in the early/mid '90s and it worked for several years.

I generally avoid Sony products these days because of cost. My Toshiba TV is just as good or better than a comparable WEGA.

If you want to talk about crappy quality then Thompson Electronics (RCA/Proscan) is where it's at.
