Aye, i'd have to say one time about 3 months ago. my sister's husband (who works at microsoft) gave me windows milllenium, so i decided to give it a try. so i install it, and things are all good. sub 40 second start times, yeah, i'm in heaven. well, i try to fire up counter-strike. CRASH. a few days later, i still end up with that bloody blue screen....which is laughing at me at this point. format c:

Well, i have done it about twice this week. I installed win2k pro, and i tried to play rocket arena and counter-strike. No go. A few minutes into either game, and BOOM, the game freezes. after trying to fix my prob for about a day, i gave up. format c:

And the next thing i did was just plain retarded. Seeing that bloody "Windows Millenium" startup screen once again gave me a little bit of hope. "Maybe RA3 and counter-strike might work," i thought to myself. hah, fat chance there. guess what happened? yeah, exactly, BSOD. FORMAT C:

Well i tried win2k again. this time counter-strike works, but ra3 still crashes out. man, this cycle sucks.

I use to run Win2kpro.. use to freeze out of nowhere for some reason so I killed it and went back to 98.. ME came out.. installed that. Gave error in <unknown> too many times with too many commonly used apps. Format, install win2k, and I'm set, i have no problems running anything or any games.

I am fortunate enough to have several systems so when I wish to install an "experimental" OS I don't end up having to go thru the tired formating and reinstallation process.

Why not invest in a couple of drive racks and an extra HD,that way you can have the MS OS flavor of the month ? :)

None :). Although I did upgrade to win98 from 95 for usb support for an MS Intellimouse Explorer when it first launched, if you want to count that since I wanted it for games :D.

I have Win98SE and I'm happy with it. It's only a 255mb installation (custom install), I've run Clean System Directory to clear out the excess baggage DLL's, Easy Cleaner to clear out the excess baggage from the registry and the unnecessary files, RegClean to fix any errors, and Necro File to clear out the deleted stuff that Recycle Bin left behind. I have XSetup to tweak a few settings, TweakUI for the h*ll of it, AdAware to clear out potential spyware, WinRam Turbo and MPower to free up and defragment RAM, and Power Defrag 'cause my defrag is slower than snail sh*t. I did the updates from Windows Update, and most from CNet's CatchUp Service. This PC runs smoothly w/ no errors that weren't self-generated, and I'm still 94% system resources free.

I have reformatted several times, but only due to my own screwups. Trial & Error has been my best teacher.....

If it ain't broke, fix it anyway!

My GF has WinME, a 550mb install. I wouldn't have it on this 'puter, but she's got a Pentium III (I only have a Pentium Pro on mine...), so she wouldn't notice the speed difference. My PC would crawl with Windows Milennium.

Wouldn't have WinME anyway, from all the horror stories I've heard lately.......:Q -kd5-

hmm, maybe i should do a dual boot if my rocket arena doesnt work. i really like win2k, but i dont want to throw away all the stability just for a game.

The question is, how many times have I uninstalled an OS because of driver problems. Heck, a couple of times, I'd have to uninstall it like 4 times to get it working! Ok, my fault i'm not a wiz with the editing the reg.
