How many times has your personal info been stolen, and do you do anything about it?

So my information has been stolen from several vendors and I've gotten the "sorry our servers suck, here's a year of credit monitoring service for you" letter several times.

Do y'all actually sign up for the credit monitoring, or fuck it?

Never. If it had been, I'd say "fuck it". I don't need half-assed scareware to monitor my stuff.

I've gotten notifications of stolen data from 4 different major institutions and businesses. Haven't signed up for credit protection, but I do check my free credit report 3 times a year.

Never. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I do take care to look around the internet for bad reports on new vendors before I give them my CC info.

I pay to have my credit monitored, $20/mo. I've had my Debit card skimmed, but that's about it.

Sucks to hear you got you information stolen, hope they don't end up using it.

the govt offered free 3 yr monitoring through a private company for all the OPM data that was stolen. I figure it is better to have a safety net behind the scenes for all the stuff I could potentially miss and I am a hawk when it comes to self-monitoring.

Signed up for 1 year free credit monitoring with an outfit I never heard of before. My financial institution's servers were hacked.

Also I decided to get 1 of 3 free credit reports from a major credit bureau. I'll do this every 4 months with these bureaus, as they limit the free part of the report to once a year. Learned that a department store where I last used their card twenty + years ago, finally closed my account.

I don't know if my info has ever been stolen, but I've never gotten any of the letters.

Being that pretty much everyone I do business with has the info I don't consider it "personal".

There's been a bunch of unauthorized use of credit cards with my name on them. That doesn't bother me much other than having to call. Funny how they pick up immediately when you call the fraud number.

I think I got the letter couple of times. I don't worry about it too much because I froze my credit with all three credit bureaus many years ago. Nice side effect of having your credit frozen is reduced postal junk mail.

My info was hacked through my health insurance. They offered a year of monitoring, but I already had monitoring from target.

Just once, had a fraudulent credit card charge. I was sent a new card and haven't had a problem since. I occasionally check my credit karma report.

The state of wisconsin mailed out my tax booklet with my SS number printed right on the front. They paid for a year of credit monitoring. I got hit in the Home Depot breach awhile back and got a few new credit cards issued. Also, was part of the Target breach, they paid for monitoring(I think, not sure if I signed up for that one).

None that I'm aware of but I'm sure it's happened a few times.

What infuriates me is several of my and my wifes credit cards were compromised. Who knows if they were skimmed at a local restaurant, RedBox kiosk, online purchase, Newegg/Amazon/credit card company was hacked, etc. It's happened with various VISA/MC and even Amex products.

Earlier this year one of my beloved Amex cc's was compromised. I received a notice of a "suspicious" $8.53 charge attempt for Subway restaurant in Brazil.

I got the BC/BS letter too. I read some reviews of the monitoring service they offered (Allclear ID), it's worthless. I didn't bother signing up.

Twice. Sony and TMobile/Experian. Sony paid for Allclear, Experian is using their in house company which makes me laugh. It's like, aren't you guys the one who lost the data in the first place?

Had my wallet stolen many years ago. Reported it to all three credit bureaus and they put a fraud alert on for seven years. Any time my credit was pulled for a credit card/loan/etc, the issuing bank had to call me to confirm I gave permission for it. Never had an issue since.

Never. I think there was one time where I may have performed transactions at a store during a time when it was reportedly hacked, but never had a fraudulent charge.

On the "lucky" side, I seem to have a habit of signing up for credit cards that get cancelled. My last two primaries (I have a bunch but only ever use one at a time) were discontinued or transferred to another bank so essential data was probably changed.

Well I have T-Mobile so I probably got hacked there. I have Anthem Blue Cross so there too. I have a Target card so there three..

Not one has sent me a letter... I want to make contact with Antem because they were supposed to be offering free credit monitoring. Since my wife our child and are on the same account all three of us should get it?

Probably should freeze all our credit.

Never been stolen. Then again I don't use a debit card, don't bank or pay bills online. And I only use a credit card ( prepaid ) with online vendors.
