how many sets of pushups would be effective for a daily routine?

for the ones with arms spread out (works out chest)

and the one where your arms are kept aligned with the shoulders (for triceps)?

My friend used to be really scrawny, but he did them until he fell down, and now he's huge.

Pushups are all psychological for me, if I'm on #50, I wanna quit, but if I really wanted to I could do another.

Every day I first stretch, then do a set of 50 with normal arm interval. Follow this by two separate sets of 20 close-arm (diamond), followed by a set of 30 wide-arm. Seems to be working just fine...

If you wanna get big, go lift weights. Push ups are only effective up to a certain point.

Edit: Unless of course you do stuff like hand stand push ups, hindu push ups, and other body weight excercises.

It's in german, to see the excercises, go to Einege Ubungen

Do them until failure. All the time. You'll look awesome even without lifting weights.

Had a friend who was relatively obsessive about push ups and situps/crunches. Did them 3-5 times a day for a whole year or so straight. After a year I finally saw him at the beach and he looked amazing. The women were falling all over the guy it was unreal.

Thing is: he was not "bulky" or "massive" but looked very proportional and was ripped (partially genetics too). You couldn't tell much with his shirt on but once he took it off the girls swooned.

If he can do it you can.

Yes, it's alot. But you build up to it. You'll be sore for sure for quite awhile. Just make sure you don't overdo it. Push yourself enough so that your body is forced to change but don't hurt yourself.

Of course, changing your diet and having a healthy lifestyle will help immensely. Get enough sleep, decrease stress in your life and all that goodness.
