So how many resumes before you got a interview.

And what are the questions you were asked that were not standard like Name, where ya from, etc.....

Number is irrelevant. Depends on how well you target the resume to positions/companies that mesh with your background.

OK to put it better, for those that think EVERYBODY only applies to jobs they will never get.

How many resumes did you send out, for jobs that you were qualified for, did you get a interview for?

At the end of 1993: 1 resume, 1 interview, 1 job. Worked there until the company was sold in late 1999.

In early 2000: 1 resume, 1 interview offer, but I'd already accepted a job offer (without interview) for the startup being formed by the #2 person at my old employer.

Probably about 2000 resumes give or take, only 3 in person interviews and about 6 phone interviews (not taking into account repeat interviews/followups).

Oh, and still no job (2 years).

First job: No resume, 1 telephone interview, job. The company heard about me from a college professor, called me, got the job.

Second job: No resume, 1 telephone interview, job. Called by headhunter, called by company, got the job.

Current job: No resume, started my own company.

Wow, that's a long time to be unemployed.

had a job already in irvine since 2002 before i graduated in 2003, applied to about 15 jobs using an "ok" resume, got 1 interview with pfizer. updated the resume to something streamlined and to the point, sent it to about 3-5 places, got 2 replies for interviews. took one of those interviews, got the job and started early this year at gen-probe. i've never been unemployed yet.

btw, my area isn't CS/IT/IS. it's chemistry/biotech field. lots of opportunities in san diego.
