How many programmers have software jobs taken to complete throughout the years? (essay)

I've got a write up to do that discusses how the size of programming jobs have increased. Stuff about how in the beginning, individuals wrote programs. However, many projects today involve hundred of programmers working together. Any sites with examples, such as how many people worked on different landmark software pieces?
