How Many ppl view their LCD in Portrait mode???

I am thinking of eventually gettin a Dell widescreen, and I love how much text i can currently get on a page on my 19 CRT at 16x12 ....Does anyone here realkly use thier LCD in portrait mode when viewing webpages, to not lose all that "up and down" space ???????

I run 2 17" LCD's. My main one is a Samsung 730B (because it has a faster response time), and my second one is a Dell 1704fpt. I like the Dell as a second monitor because you can rotate it into potrait mode when working on certain projects, like full size page layouts in Word or Illustrator.

I don't really use it for webpages.

I have a dell 17", and I can't say I have ever done that... but it's nice to know that I have the ability to.

hummm... so it it seems like portrait mode isn't that popular.....i figured if i ever got a 2005fpw or 2405 id be using the portrait mode a lot....maybe not so much apparently......

I am right now.

Take a look at The Inquirer at 1050x1680 portrait mode.

AT homepage

I have my shortcut set to Alt+~ to go between landscape/portrait.
Generally I'm always in portrait unless I'm gaming.
Its great for webpages and Word docs.

Sometimes I'll tile two Opera browser windows on top of each other in portrait mode, or 2 next to each other in landscape for price comparisons ect.
I generally do that when I'm browsing the web and I'm in landscape though.

WOW...that really looks incredible.......holy SMOKES i wish i had one on my desk right now

Its more dramatic if you see it in person, or if i took a photo of the screen with a camera.

I might do that later.
Dont let people get away with calling the Dell 2005FPW "puny" 😉

The 2405FPW is a great choice too.. if you like 1050x1680 you'll give your underwear some skid marks looking at 1200x1920. 😉
I stuck with the smaller widescreen because you get all the advantages of a widescreen in games ect.. but dont have a massive 1920x1200 to power in games (dont want to have to keep that powerful of a video card).
Plus the 2405FPW is a bit overwhelming for some peoples tastes.. I dont find it "too big", but I dont find it "just right either".

I like both. Picked mine for the easier gaming requirement.

i have 2 2005FPWs and when i do homework, i turn both of them to portrait. people here seem to think you are a n00b/retard if you use portrait, but they are just stupid IMO. you can see SOOO much more of a webpage/word document/visual studio project, etc. and it really makes things easier to see overall.

Hell no. Only a damn n00b doesnt use portrait!

agreed

Portrait is practically essential for emulation of vertical arcade games. MAME32 sports a slick auto-rotate option.

I tried the portrait mode a few times when I first got my Samsung 213T, and could see it coming in useful for numerous tasks, but unfortunately my desk here at college will barely allow the 213T to fit in horizontal orientation, let alone vertical. 🙁

Thats also VERY refreshing to hear.....i think everyone here is just spoiled by teir 2405, that the 2005fpw now seems small............ AND..if u happen to be bored and have that camera handy, some pics of your setup would prob put me over the edge in gettin a nice new shiny dell LCD (currrently have a no-name 19 CRT)

Portrait mode is awesome for webpage viewing, in fact i'd venture to say that's the way webpages should be viewed.

However, for everything else, well, i just don't like it.

So though my 204T can do it, it's just not worth the hassle of pivoting the display simply to surf teh web.

Also, with games...yeah it doesn't work so well 😛
