How many people here are old enough to realize the song Fergalicious is not original

I got into an argument with someone at work who insists the song Fergalicious is an original song. I had to break it to her that the song is a rip-off of Supersonic by JJ Fad. That conversation made me wonder how many other people thought it was an original song. BTW, Will Smith is the king of ripping off old songs.

I have heard that song one time and I knew it..

And BTW, the Gym Class Heros ripped off Jermaine Stewart.

It happens all the time in popular music.

I knew, 1/4th of all rap songs are sampled now, and no P diddy is the king of ripping off old songs.

btw, Estelle's American boy was ripped off Will.I.am's I can't wait which only came out just last year.

P Diddy is the unequivocal king of ripping off old songs. But then again, the best hip hop albums of all time were built on the backs of old soul and jazz tunes. Sampling is fairly ubiquitous in hip hop music.

Some Will Smith Rip-offs:

Miami-And the Beat Goes On by the Whispers
Wild Wild West-Wild Wild West by Kool Mo Dee & Stevie Wonder's I Wish
Willenium- Rocking the Casbah
Men In Black-Forget me Nots-Patrice Rushen
Getting Jiggy - Greatest Dancer by Sister Sledge
Summertime-Summer Madness by Kool & the Gang
Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble- The I Dream of Jeannie theme Song
Ring my Bell- Ring my Bell by Anita Ward

There is another song he does that samples the theme song from Sanford & Son but I cant remember the name.

I thought it was pretty common knowledge that sampling is extremely popular in hip hop music?

Whe you said "ripping off old songs" the FIRST name that popped into my head is Diddy. Although Will Smith is up there too.

Just because her hands make your tool look small in them doesn't make them man hands.

I guess some people think they are cool knowing the original song that it was sampled from.

I didn't know Butter's version of "What What In The Butt" was a sample/copy.

Supersonic contains a sample from Kraftwerk and probably some other songs.

wiki : Fergalicious heavily samples "Give It All You Got" by Afro-Rican and "Supersonic" by J.J. Fad. It also features elements from "Night Train" by James Brown and "It's More Fun to Compute" by Kraftwerk (both sampled in "Give It All You Got"). The riff at the opening of the song and featured throughout is from Dominic Frontiere's theme music for the 60's TV show The Rat Patrol. will.i.am's opening line is an interpolation of the opening line of 2 Live Crew's "Throw The D."
