All the weekend deal stuff I've gotten are Company of Heroes pack, Prey, Unreal Pack, GTA pack, Doom pack, Bioshock, Max Payne pack, and Stalker. That's a lot of gaming I have to catch up on. I also bought games from the damn Gogamer sells they have. I guess games are my version of shoes.

It's not awesome; it's restrictive.

I do not buy games thru Steam, though sadly, i am forced to play some games that use Steam, or not play them at all.

btw i find direct2drive.com has alot of games for cheaper, and those are their normal prices, not sales. eg D2D sells:

Red alert 3 for 29.95, steam is 49.99,
Mass effect for 19.95, Steam 29.99
dead space 39.95, steam 49.99

steam does sell fallout 3 for 39.99 while D2D is still 49.99, but generally the normal prices for steam are usually more expensive than d2d. :(

wrong. steam is advertising the same price for those games as what you listed for d2d (give or take 4 cents). Unless there are some regional pricing differences in place...

Yeah I also try to avoid steam unless the game absolutely requires it. The last thing I need is another layer of DRM.

What is this whole thing about DRM? I never looked into the "issue". Does DRM restrict you from installing the game more than 5 times due to hardware/software changes?

Anyway, steam + the rare gogamer deals sucker me in.. big time.

Yeah...for me it was the Live Cashback deal, and then the Steam year-end blowout.

I bought WAY to many games, and I haven't played any of them enough. I need to go back and play through...starting with fallout 3.

D2D has the problem of being complete crap.

More restrictive DRM, and I'm not even sure if it allows for unlimited redownloads.
D2D is willing to sell AO and foreign games though, which Steam will not do.

mass effeect is 19.99 on steam?? that can't be true? i see those above prices whenever i visit the site, guess it is a regional difference if that's so (im logging in from Japan/Korea). can someone confirm? cheers.

D2D is less restrictive than Steam in my experience. U can download the game as many times as u like.:)

EDIT: argh1!!! i entered steam through a proxy site and saw the american prices!! they're all so much cheaper!! why!!? are they begging us to pirate games? so lame.

I remember when steam had the orange box for $39.99. I bit on that so hard it hurt. I haven't really touched it since though. I've also bought mount and blade, the entire ID collection, Bioshock, NBA 2K9, AudioSurf, and many others.

Those $5 deals just get me every damn time.

Well I just bought the Max Payne Pack. I never played either game before. I got the first one to run using a sound fix from the 3dRealms board. It plays well graphically (of course - having a hard time remembering how good the graphics once looked) but I'm not a fan of the 3rd person view. The aiming is kinda lame as is the wallhacking due to the camera position.

I bought the Max Payne set too for $10.50, total score. I was pretty close to picking up the GTA classics set for $20.50, but much like GTA4, I think GTA3, VC and SA are probably best on a PS2 or BC PS3.

I have a love hate relationship with Steam. I love their cheap prices but hate that the games I buy are then locked to my acct and so therefore prevents me from reselling games i have finished and no longer play. This is why i dont mind paying slightly higher prices on certain games at a retail store that I know will be very resellable on CL later when i finish them. This way i can still recoup some of the costs in the long run.

Obviously this is exactly what the industry wants to prevent: the reselling of our games. Steam is a perfect example of an underlying passive type of DRM on top of a easy to shop for online store in disguise

I love their deals, especially bundles of games that I'd like to have a digital copy of. For instance, the entire Dawn of War series was really cheap during their huge January sale

haha, or even just orange box deal? 19.99 for like 5 games, or 19.99 for just tf2! haha! no-brainer there!
