You should never wear the same pair of dress shoes 2-days in a row if you want them to last. Using shoe-tees wicks the moisture out and keeps them looking good.

With that said. I have 6-pairs of dress shoes. 4-pairs of casual shoes and a bunch of sneakers.

I'd willingly concede my mancard, but it's more fun if you fight me for it. ;) If you haven't seen me post in other threads, I care about my clothes and how I look...probably have 12-15 pairs, with other ones that have just fallen out of the rotation. Most of them are "nice", but I recently picked up a pair of Zegna's and Via Spiga's...those are going to be babied for a long time.

I have one pair of formal dress shoes (weddings, interviews), another pair falling into the "dress shoes" category, that is a fancy boot for wearing to work. One comfortable, semi-casual sneaker which is also worn to work or while hanging out. One pair high tops (basketball shoes), and one pair of crosstrainers for running and gym, also worn during weekend errands.

hmm...

I have a pair of waterproof sneakers, a pair of ultracomfy sneakers, a pair of dress shoes, a pair of sandals, and several pairs of sneakers and shoes that need to be thrown out.

Any real man knows there is nothing more manly than getting laid, and to get laid you have to look good (sometimes). And to look good you can't mix brown and black. So while I agree with alot of the people who have posted, you need the following shoes:

Brown Dress Shoes (often boots like sketchers)
Black Dress Shoes
Crappy Shoes for yardwork (mowing is manly)
Nice Sandals for when it is hot but you need to look decent
Flip-flops for the pool/casual summer days
Sneakers
Work Boots

Aside from this everything must serve a specific purpose, ie sports as someone else pointed out. I play all intramurals so I have:
Football Cleats
Baseball Cleats
Soccer Cleats
Basketball Sneakers

Others that are acceptable: Bowling shoes, golf spikes, turf shoes, etc.

So the target is 10-12, more than that and you are pushing it. But those guys who are trying to be old school and say 1-3 are just plain wrong for the getting laid reasons mentioned above.

I have 3 pairs of combat boots, 2 pair of running shoes, 3 pair of dress shoes, 1 pair of comfy everyday dr. scholl's ordinary brown shoes, 1 pair of flip flops.

I don't feel unmanly, but I guess it's subjective.

You can have 1 pair of dress shoes and 1 pair of tennis shoes. You may also have 1 extra pair of shoes if you only use them for running or athletic stuff.

You may have several pairs of sandals depending on your situation. For example, a college freshman needs shower sandals, which should be separate from a nice pair of tivas.

Hmm.

I got two pairs of formal shoes that I wear with suits, ties and the like. Black & Dark Brown.
Two GOOD pairs of leather boots that I wear all the time with jeans and stuff. One Black, one Blue-Gray.
An old Black-and-White pair of sneakers I wear during bad weather (rain, etc.) or when I'm feeling athletic.
And these really loud black-and-white wingtips that I wear occasionally to clubs with equally loud clothing :p

Six in all - not bad.

My roommate works at a retail shoe outfit, and he has more shoes than I care to even approximate. Consequently, I have what might be considered an abnormally large shoe wardrobe, simply because of my proximity to him.

I have uh..

1 pair of brown work/causal shoes (which I wear most of the time, because they're comfortable)
2 pairs of brown dress shoes
2 pairs of black dress shoes
3 pairs of sneakers (1 black, 1 white, 1 for sports)
2 pairs of sandals (both are the same model, just one pair is blue and the other pair is black; the blue ones are a few years old already and I wear them mainly to be in the grass because I have eczema and the grass here triggers it, so I try not to go completely barefoot in it)

I think that's it. I don't wear my dress shoes that much because they're not the most comfortable (and I have wide feet, which always makes finding comfortable shoes a mission)

Let's see...

I have
1 pair of sneakers/every day shoes
2 pairs of work shoes (1 black, 1 brown)
2 pairs of hiking boots (1 light, 1 heavy)
1 pair of work boots (steel toe)
1 pair of yard work shoes

running shoes
boots
sandals
work shoes

More than one pair of any type deserves mockery. You can also keep an old pair of whatever around for doing yardwork, but the boots should work fine for that.

Any more than that and your man card is REJECTED.

You are stupid.

Nothing wrong with guys having a lot of shoes. :)

I only have like 15 pairs or so here (2 boots, 5 sandals, 2 sneakers, 6 dress shoes). I think anyway...

Lol, I used to get by on essentially one pair of shoes. I had a pair of brown boots that could be worn with a dress shirt and pass as dress shoes if i cleaned them. Had to dig out an old pair of black dress shoes for funerals, but otherwise I had one pair for more than a year. This was back before I started running again though but I think the rule is that you have one pair of primary shoes, and a hanful more for specific purposes.

Well, most of my male coworkers wear the same pair of shoes all year long anyway. ;)

Pair of brown flip flops, one black dress, one brown dress, one semi-dress brown, one semi-dress black, one pair running, one pair REALLY old running for yard work.

My wife keeps herself a 30-pair limit. If she buys something new, an old one must be thrown out. These range from $9.99 Pay Less shoes to God knows what price.
