I just saw they canned 'Viva Laughlin' after only 2 shows?
'Viva Laughlin' canned after two episodes

I remember how Cheers started off slow as did many old shows that are now ranked as some of the best. Even the pilot of Seinfeld, and the next couple of shows, did poorly. Yet they were given a chance and we call them Classics now.

So would your old time fav. last today?

Full House
Family Matters
Saved by the Bell
Boy Meets World
Step by Step

Basically a lot of those older shows that I used to love just seem like now a days they wouldn't make it (if they were the same episodes airing now as new shows).

All in the Family.

If that show was on today Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would see to it that it was taken off the air and that Carroll O'Connor issued a public apology.

Plus, the show was on the verge of being canceled until the Sammy Davis Jr. episode brought in a bunch of viewers that eventually stayed and through word of mouth brought in the rest of the country.

Andy Griffith....great wholesome funny show....which is exactly why it would not have an audience.

All the old shows: Father Knows Best, Leave it to Beaver, Doby Gillis, My Three Sons, etc.

X-Files

Does that count as old? :p

In response to the OP, I've never even heard of Viva Laughlin, so maybe that was part of the problem.

I don't think any old shows would work today. That is assuming you mean just play them as they were back then.

I heard of the show since I watch CSI on CBS. It has Hugh jackman in it(not the lead). But I also saw it has singing and dancing so i guess it was gearded toward women? But only 2 shows? That and both shows were on different days. So unless you were REALLY trying to follow it I don;t see how you could.

Friends, Seinfeld come to mind.

Both shows started off pretty slow IMO.

Especially Seinfeld.

Quantum Leap was a show I loved back in the day but it's so cheesy now that I don't think it'd last, though Journey Man is basically the same concept but less cheesy.

The entire first season of the simpson's was shit. Also...roughly the last 7 seasons.

Well, I guess you've never seen CPO Sharkey :D If you think they'd have a field day with All in the Family you should seeCPO Sharkey. Don Rickles ripped on everyone in that show.

It occured to me yesterday, as I was discussing that show with my wife (we watched about 3 episodes...I just couldn't get into it) that the premise was almost exactly the same as quantum leap, which I loved.

The trouble with jouneyman is this: Who cares about his present day family problems and his job? That shit is boring crap I have to deal with and I was immediately frustrated watching this character try to hold his family together...like he can be a good dad when he'll probably teleport into a vocano in 3 weeks. Not to mention his job. "Sorry boss! I'm late for work for the 300th time! I, uh...fell down some stairs? Thanks for not firing me!" No...it just doesn't work.

I completely agree, I gave it one chance on the premier and didn't like it enough to watch it beyond that. Mostly because it's a sucky rip off of Quantum Leap.

What exactly does wholesome mean? A good portion of people who thought those old shows were wholesome also believed in segregation and inferiority of women.
