I know there are about 3000 posts around here describing the same problems with the 75 and 60 GXP line. I actually own the 60GXP 40GB model and am happy to say after about 7 months it's still running fine. I just wanted input from other users with GXP's so that we can balance out some of the scary stories with successes.

Two out of two but they're only a couple of months old and running in RAID-0...way for me to push the envelope 😉

My 30 gb 75gxp is still going strong. over 2 years now....

Yeah, it makes some funny noises now and then...but it's never failed the tests i run on it...so i have *some* confidence in it!

I have a 40gig 60GXP that I have had for 8 months running fine with no problems. Quiet and speedy 🙂 Also a friend of mine has about 10 60GXP's in all different sizes and he has had his for over a year with no problems what so ever.

I got a 60GXP as a replacement for a 75GXP that died after a little over a year.......i've had the replacement drive for 5 months now and its fine....I am not worried about it dying on me ....

Died once and gotten a factory certified 15Gb back. Still running strong after 8 months. Please don't die on me. 🙁

2 30GB 75GXP's working fine, both are from about the time the 75GXP's were introduced, dont remember exactly how old.

1 60 GB 60GXP going strong in the comp Im typing this on.
2 20 GB 60GXP's going strong as well.

My rigs run 24/7

60GXP - 6+months no problems
120GXP - 2 months no problems

2 30 gb 75gxp here. Both have been running fine for a year or so. Both run 24/7. One of them started making a little noise and was taking a while to read/write about 6 moths ago. I noticed that it was getting hot where it was, (poking around inside to be sure which drive was making the noise) so I moved it to a differrent bay with better air flow and it's been fine ever since. The only thing I can say is these drives don't like to get hot.

I have 2 20Gb 60GXP's that are about 9 months old, a 40Gb 60GXP that's about 7 months old and a 40Gb 60 GXP that's about 5 months old. All are working fine (knock wood) so far.

My 30GB 75GXP has been chugging for more than a year now... it was my Primary until about 2 months ago, at which point I moved up to a 60GB D740X Maxtor, and made the IBM drive a slave, with constant reading/writing as my storage drive, it's holding up great!

Got a 40gb 60gxp being used as a secondary drive for the past 7 months. I only use it for downloaded files and such so it doesn't get too much work - probably why its still alive.

I've got a 45GB 75GXP(manufactured in June 2000 and made in Hungary) that has been used daily since December 2000, and have not had any problems at all. I've had two 80MM fans blowing across it though. Using the Speedfan utility to measure its temp, its operating temp averages about 32°C(28°C@idle and up to 34°C during a defrag).

8 GXPs running in computers I've built. 4 75GB 75GXPs, 2 45GB 75GXPs and 2 40GB 60GXPs still going strong and stable. I haven't had a single one fail. All are actively cooled, though.

I have two IBM drives....

1 x 27Gb 7200 drive, about 2 years old
1 x 40Gb 5400 drive, about 5 months old

The 40Gb drive was a replacement for a 75GXP which died last November :disgust: (it was about 6 months old when it bit the bullet).

Have had a 20GB 75GXP for about a year and a half. No problems. I have it positioned in my case so that it a nice amount of airflow on the top and bottom of the unit.

Cheers.

Had my 30gb 75GXP for 18 months and thought I was past the problem area! No such luck and have just finished using these forums to sort out the RMA procedure.
