 But I like the cute lil' robot cursor! I don't care if they spy on my website...maybe they'll get it listed on the search engines(yeah, right).
Why is Comet Cursor so bad? I don't care if their advertisers spy on me really...I like the cursors! They have seduced me into being a willing spy victim.

You have a right to like it. Just remember that visitors to your site have a right to not like it. People who know what they're doing will say no. People who don't know what they're doing will say yes. Then the cursor applet and its attendant spyware will be installed on their PCs. If they find out about it later on, they won't be very happy with you.

:Q You mean just by viewing my web page they'll get automatically infected??? That's sinister! Hmmmm.
I'll have to think about this.

Well, whether it happens automatically or not depends, I guess, on their browser's security settings. I get asked if I want to install the Comet Cursor, but I think that the "Enable Install on Demand (Other)" option in IE might enable the applet to be installed without consultation with the user. If that's the case, I suppose s/he'd get "infected". Curmudgeonly old people like me can be pretty irritable when stuff like this happens. And I have heard of Comet Cursor causing some fairly serious problems on some computers, mostly by causing crashes because of video driver issues. I've seen some sites where the public was warned about the cursor and offered the explicit chance to avoid installing it.

Edit: BTW, cute site. I hope to get back to it and do some reading.

Tahoma may be a good font... but i don't believe it is a web safe font...

On some Mac systems, and probably *nix systems using X your font will probably default to Times New Roman... Which imo is a terrible font for the web. Arial is a web safe font... as is courier new...

Those three fonts are installed on all os'... while tahoma may be nice, i think it is by default installed only on windows boxes... I guess it depends on if you want your site to look the same on all platforms...

Fonts we use and like are subjective. That is some of us like one font better than another. Fortunately with Windows we have an abundance of fonts to choose from. :)

Doesn't make much difference with Outlook Express 6 as in HTML mode all fonts show as the author of a note intended. In Plain text mode all fonts will be in the font you selected as your default font. (also depends on if you have that font installed)

I personally think that Arial sucks big time for any use. Just my opinion. :D

hey you know what else is really cool? Bonsai Buddy!! ;-) He's my friend, he talks to me.. and gives me advice.. and swings onto my screen on a vine!

but seriously,

I was a traveling PC Tech... before I became Laid-off due to downsizing.. and I can tell you that ive seen those cutesy little programs cause so much havoc on peoples systems.. I personally wouldn't mind strangling the Comet Cursor, Bonsai Buddy, and Gator Creators!

Gator Creators.. heh.. rhymes nicely.. I like that.. damn its 5:31am.. Losing Mind....

this is fun... check it out.. http://www.oddtodd.com

ineedsleep is right about what he said about web-safe fonts. Verdana is another good font that I like and is web-safe.

Since your site contains a manuscript you're best using a font that is easy on the eyes for on-screen viewing. The Tahoma is good though.

You might try breaking up some of those large blocks of text with graphics. I'm a writer too, and the web is all about eye-candy; people get scared away when they see endless pages of text. Make the text wrap around the images, etc.

As to the Comet Cursor, you really might want to reconsider it. I clicked the option to NOT install and it kept popping up every so many seconds asking me again. At least eight times while reading chapter one! Really annoying....

Nice writing sytle, BTW.

:)Thanks Dr. M! I may go ahead and remove the Comet Cursor since it does that...how annoying. I guess there's always a catch when something's offered free(except for Zone Alarm it seems).
I'll have to read Help in my Trellix Web program and find out how to wrap text around my graphics. That would be nice. So far, I only know how to put in the graphics above and below the text.
Thanks again everybody for responding to my poll.
