PriceOfWands: A bunch of questions on your post.

For one thing, I read through the entire subscriber agreement that I received back in August and I couldn't find the relevant section regarding servers. Do you happen to know where it is?

I read through the subscriber agreement because I heard that there's a possibility that @Home may stop routing IPSec packets to @Home customers to force them to move to @Work. I couldn't find anything about IPSec packets either. Is this rumor true as far as you know? Why does @Home care whether or not I'm using IPSec packets or not?

Do you know approx. how much @Work costs? The web page doesn't quote a price that I could find. I need to submit for a quote. This is the legitimate way to run a web server on the @Home network, right?

Thanks for any info.

Addy is in my sig (forums aren't hosted on it, it's just a redirector because I felt like it, lol).

Specs (unimpressive I warn you):
PII 300 (Intel SE440BX)
64MB Ram :( Soon to be 320MB :)
6GB Quantum Fireball
40x CD-ROM
D-Link NIC (dunno which, I forget)
ATI 3D Rage IIC AGP 8MB (enh it works)
No Sound Card
Zip 100 (temporary)
Floppy
1Meg DSL (non-static IP:(, hence DynIP)
NT 4 Server (w/ IIS4)

It's also my workstation :( so it gets a decent workout, but only until New Years. :) Then I can play around with some other stuff for it.

PM: Well, how much it costs depends on where you live, the condition of existing telcomm infrastructure in the area, and a bunch of other stuff. @Home and @Work are totally seperate so I don't have any input for them other than 'Yes, @Work is the only way you may legitimately run ANY form of server on an @network.'

There's a lot of talk about what to do to stop services on @Home. The fact is that as far as @Home is concerned they don't care as long as it doesn't in any way take anything away from others. The cable companies however are generally very upset with anyone running any services so they're the ones pushing for reform. This is what I know for sure:

All bandwidth usage is actively monitored and reviewed for spikes and patterns. Upload speeds will be capped in ALL @Home markets within 3 years to 128kbps to restrict any serving ability (and for some other tech reasons as well). Traffic relating to certain ports (specifically associated with news and dhcp services currently) are monitored and/or filtered and these activities will increase shortly...again not as an invasion but to restrict servers and other forms of interfearing services.

As for the exact AUP passages, they follow:

Bandwidth, Data Storage and Other Limitations

p3. You may not run a server in connection with the @Home residential service, nor may you provide network services to others via the @Home residential service. The @Home residential service includes personal Webspace accounts for publishing personal Web pages. Examples of prohibited uses include, but are not limited to; running servers for mail, http, ftp, irc, and dhcp, and multi-user interactive forums....(etc, etc)

Basically you can surf, get your mail and newsgroups, have a small and simple webpage and that's it. If you want anything else you don't want @Home.

I just installed win2000 svr on two machines. I have a website running on iis 5.0. I have a problem with the lynksys router after I do some work on my webpage that I run on the doamin controller. Sometimes I have to reboot the lynksys to get either of my 2000svrs to access the webpage or the net sometimes.
Another problem is that I cant get the other svr to join the domain or become a backup domain controler. I demoted it and then tried to jopin but couldnt. I also reinstalled 2000 svr and then tried to becaome a backup or child domain but couldnt do it.
