How many of you run Win2k without IE? Should I remove IE?

I'm thinking of running IEradicator to remove Internet Explorer. Although the Opera browser has problems posting on the anandtech forums (please do not speak of this any furthur - there is a thread made specifically for this), it is much faster than IE in every single aspect of internet browsing.

Should I remove IE? Right now, I'm running 5.01 but I use Opera almost exclusively except to post in these forums (I wouldn't mind using my roommates computer to post).

Have any of you uninstalled IE in win2k? Any problems?

Thanks in advance.

this brings one question to mind...why?

if you dont like it just dont use it. unless you only have a 1.2gig hdd or something and cant afford to waste space with it.

i reckon it'd be more trouble than its worth.

yeah, but why have a program that you won't use and have it take up about 20 megs of space (i dunno how big the file actually is). IEradicator also removes the integration of IE in regular browsing of files on your computer.

Another one of my roommate's (I have 5 of them) computer has Opera ONLY but he's running win98SE and the removal of IE integration has speed up things.

Yea, remove IE and post to Anandtech forums on your buddies machine, how convenient. Seems like a dorky reason to me, HD storage is at what $2.00 a GB?, so thats like what $.02 to store the proggie on your hardrive. Lets see "Platinum Member" 2000+ posts from your buddies rig, you might not mind...what about him? LOL

80% of my posts are done on computers that are not mine. Okay, win9x is noticeably faster without IE. Not only in browsing the internet but also while browsing files. If I can get this added responsiveness by removing IE in win2k, then I'd do it. I just don't know how much of IE integration IEradicator remove. I want ALL of it removed.

I don't think it will get rid of everything. There are system files that windows uses to render HTML (mshtml.dll I think) that are used in tons of different apps. If you get rid of that you will kill a lot of apps i believe.

Have you tried switching all of your folders to be viewed in "classic mode" without all of the graphics on the right side? That might help out a little.

I think you are asking for trouble if you try to get rid of ANYTHING related to IE on your computer, for the reasons I mentioned above.
