How many of you in college have done this?

Started college then flunked out of a class or two because you decided that you didn't want to go, then you were put on academic probation?

Just wondering if it's just me, or if anyone else has done this before.

I've never failed a class...but I did pretty bad in a couple during my first year b/c of that. I know some other people that have been on academic probation though.

never done it myself... but knew people who've done that
i once knew a guy in another dorm who purposely did that so he can go to his JC at home after freshmen year because he knew he wasn't going to make it anyway... such a waste of money and time, didnt even have the effort...

Failed calc 2.. should have known, though, after the first few days of the professor being crazy that he was gonna be crazy for the rest of the semester...

i had a friend that was kicked out of college. that's what happens when you're on academic probation three quarters in a row.

Um......yep. Not just "a class or two", though - four out of five in the same semester. I paid my own way through school so luckily I didn't screw my parents out of any money - just myself. I was taking an internship in Public Relations (the one course I didn't flunk) and I liked the work so much I just started going 8 hours a day like it was a real job.

Got the most outstanding evaluation on an internship the school ever saw, but that didn't save me from having to go to the penalty box for a semester.

A friend of mine ended up leaving for a semester and going to a community college because he played Counter-Strike for 8 hours a day. Kind of pathetic, but he got AMAZING at Counter-strike. Too bad his GPA was about a 1.8.

He's coming back for the spring semester, so we'll see what happens. :)

I've mentored incoming freshmen and have looked at statistics and I can tell you from this and from personal experience that the vast majority of people who enter college expect to get a 4.0 during the first term but wind up with somewhere around a 2.3 until they learn study habits. Some of them do go on probation. Happens very frequently.

haven't failed a class yet (thank God, I have once prayed so hard that I hurt myself... don't ask)

But it is hard to keep focus in the most dreadful of classes.. but if you have friends (esp. study buddy friends) then you are set for the most part.

Don't worry.

I pulled a 2.1 my first year. Suffered from depression and constant pot usage.

I took two years off, centered my self, found my focus.

I came back and pull 3.6es all the way.

Am now a 1L (law school speak for freshman) at a good law school.

You can do it. Its a hard road, but you have to want to.

im very close.

never EVER let your personal life interfere with your acedemics especially if its boy/girl related. a broken heart is not a good excuse for bad grades.

*kat. <-- got really depressed last year.
