How many of you have an accent?

Yeah, I know this is entirely 100% subjective, but for the purposes of the poll let's assume a non-accented speech is that of American media, which, at least to me, appears to be mostly the west coast American English accent.

[edit] Post what accent. Sound clips even maybe?

straight up Vermontian. But, if i remember correctly from sociology and speech class, the american news media wants their anchors/reporters to emulate a mid-western accent. I remember there being a little scuff because one anchor didnt want to lose his southern accent, and the news channel ( think fox) wanted mid western.

I used to have a horrible southern accent.

Now I have a neutral accent. People don't believe I'm from Mississippi when I talk to them.

Umm your poll is incorrect because the accepted American accent is actually from the Mid-west. I have a midwestern accent, and plan on going into radio with it.

I've been told I have a slight English/British accent by folks on the West Coast which is strange since I've always lived in the USA.

*shrug* What I heard from a prof in college is that the west coast accent became widely accepted because Hollywood was situated on the west coast and speech preserved and transmitted in film solidified the accent as "mainstream" speech. There doesn't seem to be much difference between west coast and midwest to me.

paaaaaint....

jk, no accent that stands out...it depends who i'm talking to. with my parents its american/indian mix, with friends its american, and i can do a pretty good british or irish one too 🙂

We had some guys from Wisconsin come down to our workplace and I had no idea what they were saying.

They brought us cheese, so they weren't all bad.

I say we taze people into standard midwestern English accent compliance.
