It would great to go wireless and not have to pay for wired phone service, but I am still tied to it for a fax line. What are you guys all doing for faxes? I know there are internet fax services but from what I have seen they do not look very convenient.

I have a direct fax line but it comes to me in electronic format. eFax for the win! I have had to use a fax several times, usually on certain statutory or other deadlines where a faxed letter + package qualifies as "delivered" if we weren't able to get something postmarked.

At work we mainly scan and pdf documents but on rare occasions have to fax. On the rare occasions I think it's due to some customers who are slightly old school who are not in tune with technology or are afraid of it.

got 3 fax lines (2 at each of my business locations + 1 at home).

Yes, I can do scanning + email or winFax (for both receiving/sending) but its the ease of use. Many times, I just want to quickly send a fax or have employees fax when I am not there (Dont want the employees to touch my computers).

I don't have a fax line, but I do sometimes fax documents. I find it's more instant that mail and allows your document to stand out and get immediate attention, compared to an organization that gets 100+ emails a day.

I threw away my perfectly good fax machine. That should tell you something. The one time every two years I might need to fax something don't justify having it in the house, let alone paying for a landline.

Our fax machine is an all in one printer but since we don't have a landline, I rarely use the fax feature.

Thanks for the reminder. We just decided to get rid of our land line. The inability to send faxes will probably be a good thing as during the last 2 or 3 days, our cat has decided that the fax machine (all in one printer, copier, etc.) is a great place to lay down. Unfortunately, she manages to send faxes to people at 3am by randomly hitting buttons and calling people we have programmed in/redial, etc. So far, everyone's found it amusing that our cat has called them, but they won't if it keeps happening.

I work in a computer lab / library at my uni, and we just replaced our fax machine with one that scans & emails.

I run a business out of my home office, and find that the convenience of having a fax machine is tough to beat. I would love to be rid of the machine and free up some desk space, as well as eliminating one more charge on my AT&T bill.
Problem is, I'm not the most high tech oriented guy. Plus, from what I understand, using any online fax service still requires me to have a scanner. So I really won't be saving any desk space, will I?

We use eFax for faxes. Isn't a local number but what do I care. People calling me have to pay for the phone call.

We have VOIP at home so use that to send if we ever have to but you could send via efax too if you paid for the service.
