My Grandparents make bank off eBay. They used to own this gift store, comparable to Spencer Gifts. Anyway, they sold the shop a decade ago and had a lot of inventory left over. They sold that stuff slowly over the years, saving some the expensive items. Then the past year or so, they've been getting huge loads of boxes dropped off at their home filled with merchandise from their store. Aparently some cashier that used to work for them was a HUGE KLEPTOMANIAC!!! She stole thousands ad thousands of dollars of merchandice!

So now they are cataloging all of the mechandise and selling on eBay. Tons of Fantasy figures, Hello Kitty, Gnomes, all kinds of crap. Making a lot of money for their retirement, and for taking me and my wife out to dinner when they visit every month, for their annual snow bunny trips to California and Arizona in the winter, etc.

I personally have only sold used crap, made most of the money back on what I orginally paid for said items, so in my mind I've done pretty good.

My mom used to do a lot of ebaying between 1998-2000, she would just run around to garage sales on the weekends and see what she could find. She did pretty good for a quite a while, don't quite know how much but it wasn't a lot but enough to buy some extra toys, pay for road trips and what not. This was all great until the local community college started a class on selling items on ebay and how to use ebay, what types of items to look for and whatnot, all of the sudden you couldn't find hardly anything at yard sales. Though it did work out for us, as she had collected a bunch of stuff that didn't have enough resell value, or would have sold at a loss on ebay which she sold in several yard sales to the others trying to sell.
I used to find some good things in the antique and junk stores, but even most of them have caught the ebay breeze to, and are not worth even looking at for the most part.
Though I do have some model rocket stuff I picked up on clearence that should net me about $75-$100 a peice when I get around to listing it, unfortunately I only have 2 of them, bought 3, but keeping one.

I don't understand this...the cashier just stole 'thousands and thousands of dollars' of things and never used or gave them away....then just started mailing it all back to an address they had to go search out...then open themselves up to possible criminal charges?

He mentions it's income....that's not so hard to believe if you have the capital to support it....although it should be phrased as $20k in SALES.

in about 20k a month of income and make anywhere from 2.5k to 6k although it's been steadily going up. The plan is to make enough capital to dabble in creative real estate. My dad handles all my shipping and bookkeeping..he spends 3-5 hours a day on it. Who would have thought he'd lose his job and be unemployed for 3 years then get hired by his son. All I do is acquire goods and list them. A lowball estimate for profits would be 35k this year. It's looking like it's going to be more like 45k as I'm not really having problems acquiring things anymore.

now his math is a little fuzzy says he does 2.5k to 6k per month in profit (30000-72000) and of course he pays his dad something....I don't know but 3-5hours a day for another employee to just track and ship sounds like more income......

Then the fuzzy math with at least $35k but more like $45k (a pretty huge difference of almost 25%)

This is all with a 'real' job....yet he would only possibly double ($100k) his money full time?

I am sure he is selling alot, but only counting 'good' months in this.

If my brother counted only his best month he'd make over a million per year after costs, just the worst month probably -$50k-60k

yeah, that's exactly it. I guess the lady already knew my grandparents address... They don't know for sure who took the items, but they have a good idea. The items just mysteriously appear on their doorstep after going on trips or while they're out of town. They suspected one of their workers of stealing a lot, an older lady, and they think she's the one returning everything. My Grandparents don't mind too much now, as they are selling this crap on eBay for a huge profit, more than they would've got in the store.

By the way, they get stuff returned to them all of the time. Mostly from former workers whose conscience catches up to them. It's funny because they haven't owned the shop in years!
