I know there literally hundreds and thousands of threads concerning this issues so i figured what the hell, why not start another one!! I more concerened about overclocked PC's using higher voltages running 24/7 then i am with stock clocks and voltages.. So here goes, how many of you leave you pc running 24/7?? I for one leave mine running all the time, unless i'm upgrading hardware or installing software that requires a reboot.

I never leave it running 24/7, even with OC. I don't have my OC'd right now though, because I don't have good enough cooling.

I shut it down at night (unless i'm downloading something)... My system is overclocked, but I use CrystalCPUID which allows me to lower the multiplier and voltage of the CPU when it is not being heavily utilized.

Mine is off at night and when I'm at work. It's too pricey to leave running 24/7.

when my computer was in its own room, I kept it running 24/7... now that my desktop is in my bedroom due to lack of room anywhere else in my apartment, I pretty much only turn it on for gaming. I use the laptop in my living room for my general web surfing needs and turn it off whenever I'm going to be afk for more than 1-2 hours.

I used to. However, if you are a 24/7 user, it is best just to run it stock as stability > *. I've had overheating issues as dust eventually begins to creep in or the occasional fan outage...

If you are not running your pc 24/7, then you should head over to the distributed computing forum. We will help you fix that.

On when I'm using it, off when I'm not. I don't download or serve 50 gigs of porn or whatever per night, so no need to leave it on.

My current machine has been running 3 years now, being switched on and off at least once per day, so if you're worried about wear and tear...

I've broken myself of this habit. I had a ton of machines over the years, all overclocked, that ran 24/7.

The only reason I left them on was so that I could remote desktop to them from work to nef online. I recently built a small HTPC that does that job now, and my main rig (Q6600 @ 3.2GHz) hasn't been turned on in a few weeks now.

My desktop runs 24/7 just because I don't think it would turn on again if I were to turn it off. It was a process just to get it to turn on the last time. It also allows me to test things externally from work. So its a twofer

Mine is on 24/7 serving data to my weather website and and has been for ~ 2 years specs in sig the only time it gets a restart is when I update and there have been several times I have been busy and it has been 2-3 months between restarts. for the first year or so it also ran Folding @ home on both cores 24/7 as well.

Mine is off at night, or when I'm not at home for a long period. Used to leave everything on 24/7.

running 24/7. overclocked from 2.4 ghz to 3.4ghz - x3220

it doesn't really matter now days anyway because of intel's dynamic multiplier reduction. if you are sitting idle, it clocks your processor way down.

is there an advantage to running it constantly?

Aside from running the DC stuff, back when I was in a college dorm, it served as my heater. :p

Of course some would say that there is an advantage other than this, for the physical health of the hardware, but I'm not going to get into that as I honestly dont' know that much about it.

I have an AMD something or other in my desktop that's 2200. I think it was around 1600 stock. It's been running 24/7 for several years without any problems whatsoever.

I like a PC ready at all times. Also I find that older computers make awful sounds when turned off after being off for a while. It can take hours for the fans to chill out from being started up again.

this thread sucks without teh pollage.
i leave my E6300 1.86GHz running at 2.56GHz 24/7

I don't see any point in running it stock if you know how to overclock and test for stability unless you're building a cool and quiet system.
If it runs 100% stable with prime95, that means the chip was meant to run at that speed to begin with.
Many people always thinks overclocking is pushing the chip harder than what it's built to do.
But it's not like the chip was designed to run at that clock. The chip was designed to run at as high of a clock as the manufacturer knows how to manufacture it.

Usually on 24/7, sometimes I turn it off. It is kind of noisy, but not loud enough to keep me up.
