How many of you got a TiVo for Christmas

My parents bought me a 40hr TiVo for christmas.

I was looking on TiVo's website and just discovered the "rewards" program.

Has anyone referred a friend before and got points?

For every friend referred you get 5,000 points.

They'll send you an apple iPod @ 20,000 points.

So if anyone wants to be nice to me and is activating their TiVo, if you'd use the email jpaulson@mvtvwireless.com for the referral, I'd be happy. If not, that's cool too.

Kind of a cool deal but anyways... I'm so happy I've got a TiVo for myself (we've got a DirecTV Tivo @ home.)

If any of you want to discuss crap about TiVo I also created a TiVo section on my forums.

Anyways, enough of this for tonight 🙂

Merry Christmas to all!

If you haven't signed up yet, there are sellers on ebay that will pay you $40 to let them refer you. do a search on "tivo rewards" or tivo referral

Is Tivo the service that doesn't require a monthly fee?

There are two types of Tivo service.

Tivo Basic which is FREE
Tivo Plus which is either $12.95 per month or $299 lifetime fee.

That's cool...

I have a referral email on my forums just for giggles but I don't really care.

I just wish I was at my apartment to set this bad boy up!

Why TiVo?

I mean, you obviously all have PCs (reading from them now). MUCH cheaper to just buy a TV tuner card and SnapStream's BeyondTV 3 software or SageTV and be done with it.

Free forever, then. Plus, MUCH more than 40 hours of storage. Depending on your disk space (presuming you have a 160gb drive or so), you've got several hundred hours of storage easily.

Eh it's just easier with a TiVo... sure, I *could* have built a HTPC, but why fuss with it. I'm lazy enough just to hook the damn TiVo up and that's that.

I know what you mean. We'll probably keep our Tivo especially with TivoToGo being released.

TivoToGo I believe is tivo that you can watch on the internet if your tivo is hooked up to your home network...

or else I'm getting it totally wrong... I guess that's my take on it...

Tivo is cheaper, quieter, smaller, and easier than building an ordinary PC. I could make a quieter and smaller one, but not cheaper.

I'd love to have one, but I'm not sure why. I don't watch much tv...

I guess for me, I never used to watch certain programs that I absolutely love watching now (like C.S.I. / Law & Order)... plus all the stuff on HBO and Starz

Yeah, I don't have anything to get done right now, that's the problem.

I'd rather watch TV on my 32" TV than on my 19" monitor. And on the couch, instead of an office chair.

My TV and PC are not in the same room.

The thing that pissed me off the most about it though is that it's only got one tuner, and it doesn't support dolby digital.

Other than that it's all good.
