How many of you do not play half the games you buy?

I don't think I play 66% of my library on each platform. Also this does not even count my console games that I bought as well. I'm certainly not buying to collect but I even though have time or am busy doing other things.

The games I do play I never finish, and yet I can't afford to miss out on cheap titles (75% or more off). At the same time, there are still so many sales going on with old games for $2 and I have yet to pull the trigger on it, but at that price it seem like a no-brainer.

I don't know what to do.

The real question is how do you know what to buy and what not to buy? Every cheap game that is on your wishlist is tempting.

My steam library isn't even that big compare to majority of steam user. I only have like 126 games. My console library (xbox, ps2) is like 100 that I still have yet to play. I really wish I was a kid again and have all the time in the world. :|

I play all of them at some point, the problem is finishing them before moving on to something else. When games are not full price I feel much less guilty about buying them and not doing much with them...and well some games you simply won't like. There's no way to know until you try it. There's been quite a few surprise games I picked up on sale I wouldn't have thought i'd like as much as I did.

I've gotten quite a few through humble bundles where I really didn't care about most of the games offered. I've played almost all the game a little bit, but any bad game play or glitches would cause me to never check it out again.

I use Steam categories to "help" me focus on unplayed games. I have only one category: "Finished"

When I finish a game, I set it's category to "Finished" and then I keep that Category Group closed....so I don't see those titles.

Works for my simple mind. Finished Portal 2 this weekend...started Magicka yesterday.....Dead Island on deck....I've grinded through about 40% of my Steam library. Lots of games acquired through Humble Bundles....

99% of the time, games are only going to get cheaper over time. Unless your video game backlog is close to empty, or the game you are thinking of buying is better than the games in your backlog, you should just not buy it and wait.

I did have a bit of a backlog developing, but the trick is to take a sheet of paper and write down your games in chronological order (oldest first). Then with a bit of self-discipline, clear them one at a time without thinking of anything else or being distracted hanging round gaming forums. If there's any new games out, write them down on a "to be purchased" list but don't buy them until you've cleared the old stuff (unless they're a spectacular bargain in which case just add them to the bottom). Not only will you finally clear that backlog that keeps nagging away at you, but by the time you do, most of those new games will have fallen 50-90% in price from launch, not to mentioned many AAA games are only playable & bug-fixed after 6 months of patches... Look at ROTT & Shadow Warrior reboots - both launched in 2013, both are still being patched in 2015, and both are now in GOG's summer sale for £2.49 each, (barely 1/4 to 1/10th of their respective launch prices). Two example of many.

Personally, I've dedicated the entire 2015 year to backlog clearance, having cleared over 35 old unplayed games so far, with about 33 left. If that takes me up to 2016 (and it probably will), then I'll just buy any interesting 2015 games I skipped, for dirt cheap in 2016. It really makes no sense to keep paying full price on launch day then complain about both the bugs in new games, and ever growing backlog whilst making no attempt to clear it.

Or it's the lowest it's ever going to get within reason. e.g. GoG $6 game at 75-80% off is $1.50 or less, so why not.

I play most of them but there are some I never played and at this point, probably never will. There are also quite a few where I've played for 30 minutes and then thought "meh" and never touched again.

It doesn't get any cheaper than $1.50 to $2.00 mate and yet I'm still debating. Need to get all FEAR games, System Shock 2, etc...

Guilty. My Steam library is 118 games, and I've play maybe a third of them a substantial amount. Even games I bought at launch like Shadow Warrior, I haven't gotten around to playing yet. Although in my defense, I play with trackball and joystick, so playing a new game requires programming the joystick with all the commands. It's a lot easier to fire up Counterstrike GO for an hour.

One of the reasons I have gravitated from my console to PC, STEAM sales. While I can get games on EBAY/half.com/gamefly sales for the consoles they cant touch Steam prices. People might talk about the "extra" i pay for a PC but when you take the money saved on maybe 10 games, its not long before the price match's. I have tried the "must finish one to buy one" approach, needless to say it hasn't worked, i have over 1000 games in my steam library, i don't even want to discuss my console list (360 i have over 300) ya.. i buy and play very few.. but tell myself someday!

There's a few games that I bought then not played, I bought Hitman Absolution for $3 last year and only played like 5 minutes of it and never fired it up again, I installed ArcheAge (where my guild migrated to from Guild Wars 2) and I couldn't stand it and I haven't bothered with LA Noire after buying it. lol

honestly i have games i don't even have activated from those bundles and non steam purchases. the thing is spending $30 on a game i play vs $30 on 10 games i don't play isn't really a win. although I have a backlog of something like 15 games for my 3ds. the sad thing is i paid full price for early access killing floor 2 (deluxe) and I play that game like crazy although it's only like 30% complete. If I waited a day I probably could have gotten the base game for 25% off lol.

Me also, and yes it does turn into a collector mentality. I just don't have the spare time for games any more, and when I do the ability to relax and "get into" a new game can also be hard to come by.

Besides, mostly I sit down and think "So, new game. . . or more Master of Orion 2?"

i buy about 50% of the games i play.

but seriously, the answer is "none". if i pay for something i am generally already 100% sure it's good, through youtube reviews and gameplay videos.

i dont buy AAA titles.

I think I have at least tried 65% of my library, but a lot of them I play once and just never go back to.
