waiting, well, since...an eternity...basically since september...then came oct, 19th, the official "launch day"...waiting ever since to see these boards. Same with the NV45 and newer pci-e ATi cards. Thats all i need for my build to be complete.

I'm not gonna wait and build off of nForce3 right now. First, I would be over budget if I waited for nF4, (+100 bucks for PCIe vid card, +30 bucks for nF4 motherboard). Also, they first wave of boards are probably gonna be loaded with bugs, and not a lot of people have had experience with them yet.

I just picked up a 3000+ Newcastle (S754) and a Chaintech NF3-250 for $215 shipped. I would have gone 939, but the board choice is lacking a bit right now, and I won't be getting a PCI-E SLI or no SLI video card anytime soon. IMO, the 754's are a smarter choice from the maturity and bang for the buck standpoint.

S939 is a better choice if you are spending more and want the absolute top of the line....

With the money I saved, I picked up a nice HSF in the Thermalright SLK948-U.

I agree. I was waiting for NF4 also but two things changed my mind:

1. I just got a really nice AGP video card.
2. NF4 doesn't have SS either.

So I wound up getting a rather nice S754 system together and saved myself a lot of time and money.

I'm waiting for:

-nForce 4 SLI PCI-E mobos for upgradability
-May 2005

I'll graduate high school in May, so I want to have a nice machine to game on during the summer before I head to college and once I get there I won't get a chance to use my 3D card again for another 9 months. Also, it'll be the last major upgrade I'll do for the next for years--it better be expandable!

I'm waiting for NF4 non-SLI boards; I want to buy a NF4 board and a PCI-E 6800GT, and then upgrade the motherboard and add another GT when prices drop.

Initially, I believe SLI motherboards will cost an arm and a leg.

I think the poll should include the option of "First 939 PCIe available" Because that is what I am waiting for, as the NForce4 and Xpress 200 will probably be so close in performance.

Waiting for somewhat affordable dual 939 pci-e board (possibly nforce4?) Will probably build sometime late this spring or summer.

At stelleg151's request added an option for first available PCI-E board(AMD based).

So why is everyone waiting for PCI-E boards? Not questioning your decision, just looking for your reasoning on it. Is it future upgradability, do you like the other features, is that socket 754 is too old and socket 939 currently is lacking good motherboards, whats the reason?

I'm waiting a bit longer now because I don't want my fresh new uber computer to be outdated in a month with pci-e just on the horizon. I'm also very dissatisfied with current s939 mobos, they all have their downsides, and I cannot live with a bad mobo. I'm thinking the manufacturers are holding off for nf4 to release their good mobos.

Edit: And like Mrvile said, I may end up waiting longer as I'm sure the first nf4 boards won't exactly be up to par. I really wanted a new system soon, but its just not looking practical anymore.

Not waiting for PCIe. It's still not mainstream yet, and chances are AGP based videocards will still be available next generation as well.
