I've entertained the idea as well. Then I realized how pissed off I'd get dealing with idiots all day.

Then I joined the Army. I can't figure out what went wrong.

But I never made a thread about it.

I have not, I joined this board when I was 22 so I was almost out of college and ready to get a real job.

I hate repairing my own computer. I couldn't imagine doing that all day long for other people.

16 in 2002? I'm old. :(

Hmm, I've seen a few of those threads (or threads about people wanting to open up a shop that sells custom PCs or an internet cafe). And they're usually not prepared for what it would take to run something like that (and make money doing it).

I thought about opening one when I was younger, but it seemed that every computer shop that opened up in my small hometown went out of business within three years. The only one that survived in my area was one about 20 minutes away that was smart enough to open next to college campus, but I'd imagine that even that place would go under quickly if a Best Buy or Circuit City ever opened up nearby.

When I was in highschool I opened up a small business ran from home. That's when I realized I did not want to make that my career. Mind you, if I KNEW 100% I could live off it I would not mind opening an actual PC shop/internet cafe, but the profit margin is super low, especially now that you can easily order stuff online from places like tigerdirect for CHEAPER then most wholesale suppliers. So what's the point in me ordering something for someone charging them a bit more for it, when they can just order it themselves? Building PCs is same. It is more expensive to build a PC then to just order a dell, so that's what most people will do. I still have the business registered but I cancelled my tax license a while back. I just turn people away now for most PC repair stuff. that's what I do all day so I don't feel like doing it when I get home.

I've toyed with the idea on more than one occasion but never made a thread about it.

I've read a lot of threads where the OP has wanted to open a PC retail business, and the idea always gets torn apart for good reason.

I actually advertised pc repair in home services for a couple of years in college- made some good pocket change there removing virii and reformatting etc. . .

I never posted a thread about it, but I did toy with the idea for awhile. I used to do a bit of repair work on the side, but that just made me realize I don't ever want to fucking do that.

There's just no money in it anyway... And man, people are such assholes sometimes.

I know all too well how hard it is to make money doing that, other than maybe as a side thing, so i don't think i'd ever want to do it on my own.
