I found 1,234 on a clients computer once. Their complaint and why the called me out was "slow downs"

Yeah, that would do it. About 300 things logging all your data...

When fixing other people's computers, I run Ad-aware, Spybot, Hijack this, and an updated virus scanner. They are all useful, you can fix everything Ad-aware reports, I scan what spybot reports, and Hijack This requires some knowledge but is very picky and will pick up almost everything. Thus I run them in that order.

Wasn't my machine (customers', at work), but we clocked 848 objects. Took a screenshot, too, which I'll try and post tomorrow.

Looks like I'm in the lead, over gogeeta13's fictional score :D

Its not fictional. It was 3 or 4 years of built-up junk.

0 because I never do anything stupid. On friends computers I have found thousands. Also, in reference to the ad-aware vs. spybot, I find ad-aware to be more successful on my friends comps.

I usually get a bunch of Cookies found - which seems kind of stupid to me because why should I care if websites are leaving cookies on my computer? That doesn't slow my computer down or invade my privacy in any way (unless they're using cookies in some ways that I don't know about)

The other day I suddenly got infected with a browser hijacker though, and Ad-Aware wasn't showing squat. I downloaded SpyBot, it recognized something was wrong and fixed it, but couldn't tell me exactly what had taken over my computer.

After a lot of searching I finally figured out that it was a program called Coolwebsearch. I had to download a special program to get rid of it because SpyBot didn't get all of it.

I'd updated the information files on both of these before using them. You'd think they would be more on the ball about this - if it were a virus I'd imagine that the anti-virus companies would be the first on the scenes. I haven't heard of anybody having to download a specialized virus scrubber for one virus that nobody else detected. (if there are such cases though, let me know)

Same here. Had a guy that his machine was so FUBARed that he had ME on it and it was ddos attacking the wireless router and resetting it. He had so many viruses and worms it wasn't even funny. Explorer was crashing every other minute. I think he had about 800 different instances Ad-Aware caught but after that I just formatted it.
