How many 'Netflix originals' are there now? Four or five hundred?

There is literally a new one popping up as the first recommendation every time I fire the app up on my PS3 up.

At first, these came very slow, and while I may not have liked all of them, most were generally well-received. Now it would appear that I could stand before the Netflix execs, stare at them, and fart loudly, and someone would say 'Brilliant! Greenlight it!'

I fear Netflix may turn into an online version of the WB.

edit: Uh, whoops. This is not the Off Topic I was looking for. Damn you, Netflix. This is all your fault.

Thread moved from Garage to Off Topic.

Too many.

I liked them better when they served media, not created it.

Now I worry they will be competing directly with the big networks and they might lose.

Ah...the 'specials, miniseries, and films' heading on Wikipedia is a bit enlightening. I was unaware they were making anything other than series, and I think I had seen a lot of those titles and assumed that's what they were.

Still a lotta recent content there.

How do they make money doing this? There aren't any commercials during these shows. Does the less than $10 a month that most people pay for the service actually pay the salaries of all of these actors, while maintaining royalty expense for all of the current content? They must be doing very well financially.

Oh I just looked it up, there are over 40 million subscribers. I had no idea it was that many.

I guess they are doing OK, over 300 million a month should cover expenses lol.

HBO is $15/mo without specials, which most people get for at least 3 months/year or two. Figure between $11-13/mo on average.
