How many miles are too many for a "New" car

May have just been on several test drives, or demo'd...I looked at a "new" Ford F-150 a couple of weeks, that had been a "demo", driven by the owner of the dealership's father. Had just over 4000 miles on it, and they wanted to call it NEW, and sell it for the full price...I walked away.

I dunno - 100 miles seems pretty low for demo. But I'm not sure how it stacks up for test drive land. Reality is I'm doubting many people test driving Saab shaggin-wagons are putting them through the paces...so I'm hoping it's OK.

Anytime I take a vehicle on a test drive, I put 20 or more miles on it. None of that "around the block" crap for me...I want to drive it on the freeway, city streets, and maybe some nice BUMPY roads to see how it rides and handles...

100 seems a little low for a demo, but a little high for a swap with another dealer. I've never seen a dealer that had to get a car from another dealer 100 miles away. Usually it's inside 30 miles. Sounds like the sales manager drove it for a week as his personal demo, didn't like it and got a different one.

I test drove a vehicle that had over 1000 (yes, one thousand) miles on it. The dealership was selling it as new. Not only that, the salesmen were really pushing it hard - kind of like management was giving whoever sold it a bonus. I asked about the mileage, and it seems like they said it was a repo, but they were selling it for full price anyway. I don't know how they get away with doing stuff like that.

TMV on that 9-3 seems to be higher than invoice. 1,800 under it may not be that much, I thought GM was discounting those cars a lot more.

Edit: Nevermind, didn't notice the $5,000 adjustment under the TMV.

They are - there are another $5,500 in cash back incentives that are below the line on TMV (Customer Cash Adjusted TMV).

Yup, edited just as you posted. Makes a lot more sense now.

I personally wouldn't buy a "new" car that was used as a test drive car. That makes it "used" in my opinion.

ANY new car can be a "test drive vehicle", unless you special order one from the factory or something similar. If it's on the lot, and you're interested in buying it, why wouldn't you want to drive it before you bought it? And if you didn't like it after you drove it, why would you buy it? That leaves a new car that has been "test driven"...

My new car had 135 miles on it when I bought it. I didn't care. Many of those miles were probably from the dealer they got it from.

There was an STI in my Subaru dealer that had over 400 miles just from test drives alone. You probably had these teenage guys coming in who want to drive it.

I thought there was a limit on how many miles a car could have and still be sold as new. I thought that limit was less than 4000. Test driving is one thing, I'd still call that a new car. But a demo car that was used for several months is NOT a new car.

100 miles is nothing. i would go up to 500 ona "new car" but i would not buy a new car again.

my thoughts exactly. unless you special order it, it's a demo car.

Considering each test drive is about 1-2 miles, 100 miles is lots of test drives, at least 50+.

You don't want a car that has been test driven that much, people tend to gun down the throttle to see how responsive the car is on test drives.
