How many machines can you install Windows 7 on?

Someone told me you can install Windows 7 on three different machines. Is this true? I always thought 1 disc per machine.

This is for Ultimate edition if it matters.

1 per machine. I think the family pack still gave you 3 keys, so the 1 per machine would still be applicable.

Wasn't there a family pack that is no longer sold that did this?

They are still sold, except that they "ran out of stack". Apparently, that's what I read somewhere. I might be misinformed though. Yeah, it's only for 1 but I wouldn't be suprised if it would work on 2 for a while, then it would give you some pop up or give you limited access to the PC os.

I can install Windows 7 on as many machines as I want. You can re-arm the timer 3 times before it locks you out. You just need to get keys in that 3-4 month time frame.
Now legally, 1 key per machine.

They might have been talking about Microsoft Office, which, IIRC, can be installed on three machines per license.

I could be wrong, though.

I thought Office was 2 machines; 1 desktop, and 1 laptop. I don't know for sure, but that's what I remember.

As many as you have keys for. There are exceptions, however, for licenses legally obtained through MS TechNet.

Volume license offers 20 machines i guess. Not sure that licensing is still there with win7.
