How many laws does it take to change a light bulb?

Previously in the federal government...

What other ethical legislation can they walk all over with their muddy shoes? Who else is whispering in Trump's ear? In today's news:
- -
White House to Relax Energy Efficiency Rules for Light Bulbs

In 2007, a bipartisan Congress said that requiring energy efficient light bulbs was the right idea. The Trump administration disagrees.

Now...

Earlier this year, the DOE implemented a separate phaseout of inefficient incandescent bulbs, clearing them entirely from store shelves by summer 2023. Now, the new rule will accelerate the transition away from compact fluorescent bulbs as well.

I got some 6W 95 Color Rendering Index LED bulbs that work as well as 60W incandescents. So I don't think I'll miss them. Will you?

And do you think Republicans will undo this yet again?

Oh crap, I have to stock up on incandescent C7 Christmas bulbs. The LED ones suck. The LED bulbs could be made good by using the same frosted glass as the incandescent bulbs but, alas.

I actually got some clear C7 LED bulbs. They use a lot less power, but they're more blue than the incandescents, and they flicker. Still, they have their uses.

I'm fine with LED for everything except extended reading in an otherwise dark room.... for that I still prefer incandescent.

I refuse to use CFL's for anything other than maybe a seldom-used ceiling light due to the flicker.

Now that my home has been completely converted to LED I was trying to find some charity to donate a dozen spare shorty 60 watt cfl bulbs that I bought many years ago dirt cheap and couldn't find any takers.

We had some C7 LED strings, hated them. We gave them away. We want a warm glow; they produced a brilliant flare. like I said, there is nothing about the technology that precludes a nice warm glow from an LED Christmas light but, so far, we haven't found any.

I guess this is the end for the Easy Bake oven. I do use an incandescant to keep pipes from freezing during a cold stretch like now. Other than that LED changed everything.

Crap, I forgot about the pipe bulb. I’ll have to be sure to save a bulb. For reasons known only to Arizona builders, the water supply line daylights just outside the house and runs in through the wall.

Break them open and snort the dust?

I f I was still hang'in with the guys I grew up with, it'd probably come up for a serious discussion on its merits. I mean, there was this one time I rolled up into a garage at a friend's home and two of 'um were trying to smoke dried banana peels and this other one was toking on a joint full of mj seeds giggling like a little girl every time a seed exploded in his face.

Is there a reason this needs to be so heavy handed?

The market seems to be moving quickly towards LEDs anyway.

Not super thrilled with mandates if they are not really necessary. There are probably some niche uses for incandescents, and I don't believe overall energy consumption will be impacted considering the continued growth of electric devices offsetting other reductions.
Then there is the inevitable political backlash...

Leds already 76% of US market

I suggest mixing this with your *grandfather's socks finely ground! ;)

I had an idea to add a few strings of lights to our road-facing fence this season. C9 since its about 50' long and set back... Grabbed these LEDs from Amazon:

Its hard to tell in that pic but they are glaring & harsh.

Easier to see the 'flare' effect in this pic taken 8 days later when they FAILED! lol

I returned that trash and bought these incandescents:

They glow instead of flare. Cell phone pics are ass though.
