I usually go to bed between 9-10. And wake up around 5-5:30am. Honestly thats how it is most everyday, weekends included. I wake up naturally about 4:55.

I will have some long nights being out with friends and the such and i do fine the next day. But if i do it again the next night then the next day ill feel like crap.

Curious for those of you only getting 4 hours of sleep, do you drink lots of coffee or energy drinks? Plenty of guys i work with do the stay up till 1am, be up at 6 type thing but they all show up to work with big energy drinks and coffee. Then can often be found later in the day drinking another.

I drink 2-3 coffee everyday. Maybe thats the reason? I doubt it though because I dont drink after 9PM. :'(

3-4 hours a night. Go to bed between 10-11 wake up at 2am. Been doing it for over 20 years now. I do take a 45 minute cat nap when I get home before picking up my kids from school. Then its homework with them for about an hour, p90x for an hour, cook dinner, get kids lunches ready for next day and try to wind down for an hour or so. Lather rinse repeat.

Peace

I try to keep my minimum to an 8, because if I get less than that I feel like crap. Ideally, I get around 9.

It depends, most of the time it would be 7 to 8 hours, sometime less than that especially if there are many things to do. but there are some cases I woke up in the middle of sleeping, sometimes I find it hard to sleep back again. During weekends, sometimes it would be more than 8 hours.

I'm a programmer and for some reason can't sleep well. Apparently its common in m field to have a lot of night owls

During the work week I tend to sleep around 2 hours after dinner. Around midnight to 1am I go to the gym. The. I sleep from maybe 530 to 10 and go to work .

My friends think this is mostly insane but it works for me . So I guess 6.5 hours. In weekends I sleep maybe 8-9

I'm a programmer as well. After a decade or so of doing this, including the two hour afternoon or evening nap, I'm convinced that it's one of most unhealthy things you can do to yourself. It's incredibly difficult to correct.

I've been disciplining myself over the past few months to have lights out by midnight and be up no later than 8AM, including weekends, with no extended napping, never more than a 20 minute power nap. At first, I slept horribly, waking up numerous times at night, often getting up before 7AM, then being exhausted during the day and unable to fall asleep at night, despite being dead tired. Gradually, it's come around. I sleep better than ever now and have a lot more energy. I fall asleep more easily and only awaken once or twice now, and I think that will improve further. It's well worth the effort and I sorely wish I'd done it years ago.

I need my 8 hours or I wake up irritable.

I know someone who gets 4 hours or less and wakes up every day feeling fully energized and super charged. Seriously. Fuck that guy.

Anecdotal evidence incoming... but the few people that I've known that sleep anywhere form 2-4 hours and are chipper morning people, have ended up with heart problems in their 50s or earlier sometimes.

I know a lack of sleep is linked to heart attacks, but I'm wondering if these people whose brains and bodies don't need that much sleep are putting their hearts at risk but at the same time are unable to help it.

As for me, I get between 6-8 on weekdays, 9-11 on weekends. Falling asleep is one of my favorite things to do. Waking up once a day just sucks.

And they drink a pot of coffee in the morning and another in the afternoon. While the amount of sleep that different people need varies considerably, I'm not convinced that there are a lot of people who function well for extended periods of less that four hours of sleep at night. They function, but not optimally. In the long run, it's the stress of this and whatever it is they need to be awake for 20+ hours a day for that's killing them.

I get less than 6 hours of sleep a night, and drink very little, if any, caffeine throughout the day. No matter when I wake up and when I go to bed, I just am not tired. Now, it might be because my job is not quite as physically taxing, but it is mentally challenging on most days.

If I die early, whatever. Can't be helped I suppose.

Definitely not enough. I missed work this morning sleeping through my alarms and woke up after about 12 hours of sleep. This is after only getting about 2-3 hours of sleep for the past week for various reasons. God it feels good but damn could of used the money lol.

I sleep 6-7 hours at night and feels sleepy after dinner and lunch always

But you recover, right? Maybe you should look at changing your eating habits to include higher percentages of protein and healthy fats, and only complex carbohydrates rather than simple carbohydrates and sugars in your meals. This is a problem that I battled for years before wising up. No more going into a coma and wanting to take a nap after lunch.
