How many hits at once?

I want to build a computer to use a webserver for my website. If it was built based on, say a tbird 700, with maybe 128mb of ram, running some sort of linux or windows nt4, on a cable modem and a quantam fireball se drive. How many users could it hanlde at once? I don't have any of this stuff yet, I was just wondering. (Can't afford win2k, so I put winnt4 in there.).

Might as well put up a 486 running linux if you are running behind cable. Depending on where you live, your upload cap may be as low as 128 kilobits/sec, in Canada , we have a cap of 400 kilobits/sec. Such an upload cap will serverely limit the number of users that can access it. Unless this is nothing than a personal server, it wont work well at all. I cant see it supporting more than 2-3 users at any time at any good speed. What's the UL cap of your cable provider ?

a 700 will handle a ton of hits, although i would bump the ram up to 256, especially if you use nt. Unless you're running a very processor intensive backend, you will more than likely be limmited by the cable and not the box

A 700Mhz with 128MB of RAM will handle more traffic then the average web site gets. Much more. That is, if you're serving up basic html.

Would something like a p2/celly 200-266 with 512mb of ram work better? OR is the cable still holding me back?
