How many here use Power Management under windows9x

turn off harddrive 30min

I tend to use power management on my RC5 boxes at work (shhh!), as these are typically on 24/7. Monitors cut off after 10 minutes of inactivity (if I manually don't cut them off) and the HD are off after 20 (I think).

I power down my machine at home, so I don't use PM there.

Why have your hard drive shut off before your monitor??? That looks pretty stupid to me, your monitor will be sitting there being burnt in for an hour before it is shut off? I have mine usually set to 5 or 10 minutes, and have my blank screensaver come on after 1 or 2 minutes - perfection. As for the hard drive's power management, I have it shut off after either 30 minutes or 60 minutes (sometimes I will change the setting depending on what I need).

<semi-rant>And also, you didn't need to post this here.. it isn't really hardware related, although it is in a sense (it's the 'hardware' that is shutting down, but your thread points to &quot;power management under windows9x - sounds like software to me)</semi-rant>

&quot;pretty stupid to me&quot; is a pretty harsh way to put it, I'm glad we're trying to be contstructive here. Maybe his monitor takes a while to come back on? I've seen monitors that take like 6 seconds to bring a picture back up, pretty annoying if you're trying to get something done.. and, besides, hardrives can be noisy, that's the only reason I have mine power down at all.

Anyway, none of my 98 systems can go into standby (crash..), which annoys me -- so I out the hard drive &amp; monitor at 5-15 minuites on.. varies with how I feel when I first set it after an install or my settings are lost, and I usually leave it alone.

I think that anything that is computer related goes here
example
enabling DMA in your Drive setting make you harddrive much faster

anyway I have a reason why I set my monitor to go off in 1 hour
cause im on it alot and it will not burnt it out
30min for a harddrive is also good cause I dont want it to shut down too frequently
What about those people that don't use PM at all and leave it on
24hrs day. wouldn't that be worst
heck even 2 hours monitor off
and 1 hour harddrive off will do you alot of good
