How many here play D&D?

I've been playing D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) for several years now, but since all of us have gotten jobs in the last few years, we're unable to play on a regular basis.

I was just curious to see how many people actually play this game, or something like it.

Also if you play a different pencil and paper RPG, please post the name (or link) of it. I'm quite interested in what other ones are out there.

Great concept, but I could never get into it due to lack of players and even more importantly a complete lack of a good DM. I made the switch to D&D on the computer and never looked back. I can play when I want and I no longer have 30 minute waits as a DM looks up a rule...

Here is a list of the 'pen & paper' role play games I've participated in the last year:

Vampire Masquerade
3rd Ed' D&D
5 Rings
Big eyes Small Mouth - (cute & fuzzy seizure monsters)
Changling

Yeah, I never DM'd like that. If I didn't know off the top of my head, it turned out however I felt like having it turn out at the moment. I figure that's okay since the DM is supposed to be the equivalent of god in the game universe.

Last time we played we had a great DM this guy was awesome. To bad he turned into a druggie and lost his wife, kids, job etc. I knew AD&D was evil!

I would like to play again. to bad everyone either got married or moved out of state.

I've been playing Shadowrun with my friends for the past couple of years. It's almost the anti-thesis of D&D being in the future and all... but it still strongly incorporates fantasy elements like magic, which I like.

I stumbled upon the franchise back in 1993 with Shadowrun the game for the SNES, which went on to be one of my favorites. Shortly after that I read some of the novels, and I was hooked. I love the dirty, slummy, futuristic city settings. Think Blade Runner...

I've had a plast with a private networked game of Neverwinter nights with GM input, but doesn't beat the "I will be the GM" situations by trying to pull off the unexpected

Both. Even a well run MUD would keep me happy for months at a time. Neverwinter Nights and similar games are also quite enjoyable. Sure there is a little lacking, but it more than makes up for the problems of pen and paper versions. If only I found a decent DM, then I'd be changing my tune.

I've had great dm experiences, its the players thats been at fault for the misfortunes i've had to deal with. about 3 out of 4 players I've played with had the mindset if they weren't the most powerful pc, then playing the game was pointless.

Not to mention all the physics and calculus to determine if someone who is flying was struck by a fireball :/// (that took up 3 hours one night)

That's ridiculous. That ruins the game.

I'm not into the pen and paper games but I fvckin love the ShadowRun concept. Awhile back there was a game called shadowrun on the SNES, since then I've been a huge fan of the cyberpunk/shadowrun genre. I just wish there were more products (video games, movies, books) based on that universe. Marvel comics did a 4 or 5 year run of a title called Doom 2099 it was kinda similar to the cyberpunk universe, it was a really good title at the time.

We have a great DM. I thought it was a little nerdy (alright, reallly nerdy) at first and that it wasn't for me. Well, I got hooked. I never knew one needs a very active imagination to play since you are only limited really BY your imagination. You know, kinda like Zombo.com

Niiice, I've only recent started playing DnD, the last two months of 2nd edition, before third came out and have been hooked on it since

Yep. I played all 3 editions. My friend had all the original books and taught us when we were in middle school. We upgraded to 2nd ed, and then 3rd in college. Nothing is more fun than watching a friend make a bonehead play and nearly get himself or the whole party killed. Good times.

AD&D, and 3rd Ed here..

currently stuck in bloody Ravenloft (our DM has a peverse fetish for the undead)... but am unavailable for play as CCNA runs on Saturdays this module...

d&d 3rd ed gets run by myself for a few players
we alternate between d&d, star wars (play a crazy ewok jedi star fighter ace.. its hilarious) and spycraft.
