A new restaurent opened where I work, and I have been going there for lunc for Salads/Sandwhiches ect. They just recently got there licence, so the last 4 days I have had a beer when there while I am eating. So, It's not hard drinking while at work, still not sure my boss would approve though.

Anyone else do this?

No.

If I were to drink at lunch I could jeopardize the lives of many, many people. I'd probably goto jail.

Ah true, I suppose it depends on which job you have. :)

I don't usually, but I have once or twice before (when going to a mexican dive and they have them on ice by the salsa/enchilada bar.

Sometimes, when we are working long hours on a build or something, our manager will take us to the local burger joint (Hooter's-esque place) and we'll eat a burger and a drink a beer or 2 apiece.

Having a beer would make me tired for the rest of the day. Alcohol does that to me in small quantities. It's not that I have anything against it, hell one beer probably wouldn't even put you over the legal driving limit when taken with food.

Yeah, it is more I love the taste of it compared to pop/water/juice. If I was drinking more than 1 I could see it being a problem. Maybe I just posted on here for semi-moral justification :p

Sometimes.

Previous employer had a two drinks allowed during lunch. Even served on the premises.

When I first joined my company, having a beer or two on Fridays at lunch was typical. Now, if you do it, you'd better take the afternoon on vacation You'll get fired if they catch you.

I don't know what our policy is for drinking during work hours... I don't generally go out to "sit-down" restaurants at lunch so it has never come up.

having alcohol on your breath if you deal directly with customers is never a good thing, no matter how many you've had.

I used to when I had a job that allowed lunch. Used to in college too, my instructors never cared though. A couple profs caught a group of us once a mexican place with a couple of pitchers and just laughed. Those were the days :)

Only if you're eating Mexican food. For some reason, its always acceptable to order a beer when you go out with your coworkers for Mexican. Otherwise, you may get away with it if you're with clients, and they order beers first. Otherwise, its a faux-pas even if there is no rule.

that would be an instant "you're fired" at my job. on the plus side, what you do on your own time is your own business.

We keep plenty of alcohol in the office. I don't think drinking a beer on your lunch break would be a problem.
