ok i'm pretty much fed up wth Win98SE crashing and such and am thinking about moving to Win2K. the problem is that i play UT and other games like that occasionally and don't get very good frame rates as it is. how much performance will i lose if i switch to Win2k? here's my setup:

PIII 500E
Intel i810E(it's a dell box)
96mb ram
10gb 7200rpm maxtor
voodoo3 2000PCI(can be clocked up to 175mhz if necessary, but default is 143)

i usually get about 30fps in UT. any ideas? thanks :)

you will lose quite a few fps. I lost almost half my fps in counter-strike when i went to win2k. It sucked. Quake3 went from over 100 at 1024x768 32bpp to 70 which is still playable, but a big hit. If you are only getting 30fps in UT I would keep win98 on at least just for games. Do a dual boot.

I have a Voodoo 3 2000 and am currently running Win2000. I don't think you will lose very little if any fps. It was the best move I ever made. 2000 is so much more stable.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Ya its purely Driver related.... I heard the new V3 Win2K beta drivers work great. NVidia has the best Win2K driver support period. I gained FPS in every game I play in Win2K with NTFS... I lost about 1FPS if I used Fat32.
