How many fans?

Hi,

I'm planning my first computer upgrade in about three years. I'm going to be building a system around an AMD1.2Ghz and Asus A7M266. My question is exactly how many fans do I need? My trusty old P2-400 only had 2 fans: the power supply and the cpu fan, and now I read about all these systems that have 5-7 fans on them. Do I really need that many? If I have a good power supply and good heatsink/fan, how necessary is auxilliary cooling?

0. Get an AMD Athlon CPU with the AXIA code.
1. Powersupply: 1 fan (maybe 2 fans if it is an Enermax)
2. Heatsink: 1 fan
3. Intake: 1 fan
4. Exhaust: 1 fan

Total: 4 fans should do the trick.

Cooler running CPUs (Intel) can get away with only 2 fans. However, the higher you go with AMD CPUs, the better the ventelation needs to be in the case, and thus the more fans you need.
