Just curious. How many fans do you guys have in your case. I'm trying to put fans in my case to improve the air flow cause it's very very bad at the moment. Any advice? I have a mid tower case.

I have a Cooler Master ATC-200 and the case already comes with four fans, two in the front that blow air into the case, then two fans to blow air out of the case, one fan on top, and one fan in the back. I have a power supply that only has the standard one fan, i'm possibly considering buy a new power supply that has two but i really have no need for it.

I have 2 intake 2 exhaust 1 CPU 1 GPU and the PSU of course. I use the standard intake and exhaust fans holders in my Antec 830 case. It has room for 1 more in the Hd bay but I dont use one there. They are all 80 mm fans except the 60mm deltas on my CPU and the orb on my GPU. I would just use the spots you have for the fans, should be one for the front and rear depending on your case. If your system isnt overclocked then major mods shouldnt be needed, you should get decent airflow providing your blow holes are a good size and not to restrictive.

For case cooling fans, here's what I recommend (these are other than the PSU fan of course)...

First, an intake on the front and exhaust on the back. This is the least you should have of an AMD system.

If you want/need more, one or two intakes on the side blowing on the cards, cpu, memory.

If you want/need more, an exhaust on the top (blowhole).

If you want/need more. More intakes on the front, exhaust on the back/top.

FYI, I've got an intake on the front, exhaust on the back, and 2 intakes on the side. This is for my 1.333 Tbird system.

I have 6 (5X80 and 1X120) fans, more the cooler, chipset, GPU, and more 2 fan's to water cooler radiator. Full Tower, course.

Installed in the blow holes. Good job with a dremel and jig saw.:)

I have four:

  • A front intake fan (blowing into the case). Frankly, the airflow from this fan (all fans of this nature, in general) seems pitiful.
  • Two PS fans, one inside the PS, one mounted at the "front" (the opposite of the powercord end). Both exhaust air (this came with the PS, but I think it's a good idea because of the increase in pressure capability)
  • A hood fan, specific to my case, that intakes air from the back of the case, just below the PS, and blows air through a hood onto the CPU/mobo. Here's a picture, the hood is the big black object in the upper-mid of the case, covering some of the mobo. I find it's a great solution.

That said, I'm having problems, now, with my CPU temps. The past few days they've risen to the low 50's (C), and my system has subsequently become flakey. I'm using a Volcano II, and found the stock thermal tape was mispositioned, so I scraped it off and used some Artic Silver. When I left it this morning it was down to the mid-upper 40's, but I think I've got some more work to do. FWIW, the system is actually cooler with the case closed up. A testament to airflow, perhaps? :)

pillage2001, I have a question. You say your airflow is very very bad. How do you know?

brats.....I can feel the warm air around the HSF. The air in there is just pure warm and my temperature hits the 60's! Now that I direct a fan to blow into it, it's cooler and it's at 37 celcius now.

I have 8 fans total running in my system
2-33cfm 80mm front intake fans
2-43cfm H.O. Sunon 80mm exhaust fans
1-92mm Sunon intake fan mounted in the side panel blowing on the cpu north bridge area.
variable speed 80mm azza exhaust fan in the Antec 400 watt P.S.
60mm delta 38 blow dryer fan ;) on the cpu heatsink.
and the standard gpu fan on my Elsa Gladiac 32mg GTS card.
case and motherboard temps stay within 2c of room temp at all times my cpu runs 29c over motherboard temp under full load running rc5 and 21c over motherboard temp at idle as reported by the motherboard socket thermistor for what its worth.

I have a Aopen hx 08 case. Soon I will put 6 fans in it. 1 at lower front, 1 as a blowhole in the top, 2 on the left side panel blowing on processor, 2 in front middle blowing on the harddrives. And the fan I got in the PSU.

3 fans:
1 80mm front intake under the HD inclosure.
1 92mm top exhaust. (I have a short tower that doesn't allow for a rear fan)
1 120mm side intake over the PCI/AGP ports.

I have 5 Enermax Thermo fans. I have two in the front, 2 in the back, and one in the harddrive case. Add in the power supply fan, makes it balanced at 3 fans on each side.

2 Sunon 80mm exhaust fans in top panel of case.
2 Sirocco, kick ass 80mm inlet fans, 1 in front, lower mounting spot and 1 in the side cover, with a duct, blowing air directly onto the CPU.
2 40mm, 1 on northbridge and 1 on GPU.
1 60mm Sunon on my HD.
1 60mm Coolermaster on my CPU.
1 PSU fan.
3 Potentiometers to control the fan speeds.
Works well for me.

Well i got an alpha p7125 with dual black label delta's(getting the new focussed flow 45 cfm import from uk soon i hope) also have 1 ystech(27cfxm) 60mm ho on the alpha and 1 50mm 20cfm fan on the bacl of the chip
stock asus gfx card cooler on northbridge 40mm fan and custom heatsink on clock gen, hercules orb(the one on th herc ultra) cooling the south bridges, sinks on all chips of mobo and on voltage regulator's.Biggie ramsinks on gfx card and panaflo orb(45mm tall and 70mm accross 23cfm). Heatsink terminator harddrives cooler(huge heatsink and 2x 40mm fans) got 3x40mm fans installed on a bayplates blowing air between the burner and dvd.Now for some maximum fanage hehe
2x170mm 235 cfm comair rotron 12v
1x 120mm 300cfm 120 volts(heres the kicker tho 55 dba hehe)
6x 120mm sanyo deki ace 103 cfm 12 volts
2x 92 mm sanyo denki 55 cfm 12 volts
4x 92mm papst 43 cfm 12 volts
6x 80mm fans assorted(evercool,life,sunon)
1x 60mm ystech place above the ram to pull air accross it.So for a total of 35 fans- psu with psu its 38 fans for a grand total of over 2000 cfm

5:
1 CPU fan
2 in Enermax PS
1 inlet fan, 80mm, front/bottom of case
1 itty bitty one on the GPU, though I quit overclocking it anyway.

No problems, Tbird 650@800, not the coolest around, but not the loudest either. Nor the quietest :(
