(1) serial
(2) parallel

can't think of any method of communication that dosen't use either a serial or parallel interface

Rsync
Sftp
tar over ssh
tape over FedEx (fastest way to transfer extremely large ammounts of data)

comeon - get creative, that obvious crap is just boring.

Carrier pigeons. Emulate a UDP connection by attaching messages, and releasing them all and seeing if they show up anywhere close to the right order or not.

A few quick ideas..

DNS covert channels. ICMP/IGMP covert channels. (Basically, you could tunnel a file transfer protocol of your design into just about any other protocol out there.)
Print it out on one computer. Type it in from the printout on the other.
Or use OCR to scan it back in.
Take a picture of the screen on one computer; load the .jpg on the other.
Play the file through one machine's speakers; import it through the microphone on the other computer.

Write the binary (or ASCII) on the secretary's boobies in black pen, reenter on the other machine.

the guy was either a) beingi a prick or b) trying to see how fast you could think on your feet. There isnt really a wrong answer to the question. Its more to see how you react to something you wouldnt expect and most liekly couldnt prepare for.

I'm only 21 and my favorite interview question thus far has been "If you are in a car you've never driven before, how do you determine what side of the car the gas tank is on?" This was asked after a bunch of technical questions and this question came and i was like what? But yeah - after I got the job I asked him what the purpose to that question was, and it simply was to see how i responded to a question that i'd never expect coming. I like interviews, they're fun :)

Seems more like he didn't really care about you listing off a ton of responses, but rather how you would react to him thinking that way ("is that it?").

You could also set up a binary input with the secretary - when the circuit is closed, it's a 1, when it's open, it's 0. Put one lead on each side of her... uh, input port, and close the circuit with your... uh, probe.

I would've gone on for hours listing all kinds of ridiculous ways to do it.

did he ever mention a digital file or an actual physical file? ;)
fedex, ups, walk with it, run it, drive it over, mail it, fly it, drag it, etc. etc.
