Gateway heavily advertises the cheapo configurations, thus convincing almost everyone that the low-end model will do everything they will ever need. It used to be funny when people would come in who wanted to play Q3A, UT, and other games and swore up and down that a Celeron with 64MB and integrated audio/video was more than enough to handle it.

Dude, didn't you hear? Gateway integrated the flux capacitor into their low end machines. Now they out perform a quad-tbird setup with 1.5gigs of ram and 4x75gb SCSI raid...it actually goes into the future, gets the future data, and brings it back to your current time, thus doing things instantly

If I'm talking about the same Michael J. Fox here, he's a guy from my town. My high school got a theatre named after him. I think he funded the construction of the theatre. <-- not sure

The only thing I loved about Gateway was the Destination PC series. I used to drool over those all the time. What happened to those?

All propritary computers suck. If you have to go back to the manufacturer,likeb a dell or gateway or micron or compaq or hp,and then pay for thier support(that is an oxymoron)and only use thier memory or peripherals,then you haven't been using this website to its fullest advantage.

This is a hardware review website,not just a forum for the clueless.

Mike Fox has done GW a diservice. He has done a poor job of promoting the company,but that is more the ineptness of gateways marketing staff than MJ Fox.

Gateway computers must be sold by the pound. They weigh a ton,yet do little if anything to outperform any box your local computer store could build for you from off the shelf parts.
