TOKYO, Japan (AP) -- A Japanese mental health counselor recited pi to 100,000 decimal places from memory on Wednesday, setting what he claims to be a new world record.

Akira Haraguchi, 60, needed more than 16 hours to recite the number to 100,000 decimal places, breaking his personal best of 83,431 digits set in 1995, his office said Wednesday. He made the attempt at a public hall in Kisarazu, just east of Tokyo.

You mean to tell me that I would copy and paste something as simple as this?

I just used even spacing so the format of this page wouldn't get screwed up.

I eat these digits of pi for breakfast, and they go well with milk.

this "contest" would be entirely more intriguing if intermittent power-drinking was involved

I can't decide whether this is a good or bad sign in regards his career as mental health counselor. Clearly the guy is very intelligent and could likely help someone if they had issues studying or something, but then I have to wonder if he is a bit crazy for bothering to memorize that many numbers.

they memorize the numbers by forming words with certain patterns. i did it for the first 800. it took me just over 2 weeks to learn that many.
