How many dead people are on facebook?

I'm at home sick right now and it occured to me that two of my FB friends are dead. One that died over New Years still has people posting to his page like he's still alive.

Let's assume FB never goes away. Will it eventually be like an unpurged voter registration roll where you 150 year old people on there who have been dead for many many decades? Will there eventually be more people on FB than there are people?

NyQuil is awesome BTW...

yeah i wonder what'll happen with email. I'd assume after so many years of inactivity the account would be closed and data erased (not sure if that's a stipulation in gmail's ToS right now, but I know that was the case for hotmail)

itd be interesting if you could will your gmail and email accounts to children.. that'd actually be pretty neat. you could piece together a pretty accurate account of my life through my gmail emails + chat logs

Facebook actually has an option to memorize an account. I did that for a friend of mine so that his page no longer pops up under "suggested friends" for others but the people who are already friends with him can post memories or messages that they want to share with other friends of that person... It's not like people are posting like that person is still alive, they're just virtually "standing by their grave".

I always thought it would be funny to have my status as "is dead" once I croak. I would have to get one of my friends with a sick sense of humor to do it for me though.

You could put it in your will I think, and the executor would have to.
