I'm talking about your regular ol' credit cards as well as store cards or gas cards.

I'm just wondering how many credit cards everyone has. There seems to be an inaccurate perception that too many credit cards is bad.

Personally I have 16+

Yes, I'm bored, so I figured I'd post my first poll!

EDIT: POLL WORKING NOW WEEEEE!

EDIT #2: Looks like I'm a credit whore

EDIT #3: Someone has joined my credit whore club!

EDIT #4: I have been overtaken by a Super Credit Whore with over 60 cards.

How does not having any credit cards give you good credit?
Maybe he's too stupid to use credit cards responsibly.

1 credit card that I rarely use. Sometimes I'll use it when building new PCs or doing decent upgrades just to avoid hitting the bank account too hard... I like keeping a certain amount or near a certain amount of money in there.

myfico.com is one of the only places you can get a TRUE fico score. Other sites sell "FAKO" scores.

Some credit card companies such as Washington Mutual provide you with a "PFICO" score every month which is considered a true FICO as well.

No reason really. I have about 10, all in good standing, and my FICO score is excellent. I dont see how it has hurt me.

I don't NEED them, but the more available credit you have, the less it hurts if you have to use it.

JcPenney card, 2 BoA cards (one used to be MBNA), and one Chase card.

I think there's about $33,000 in credit between them.

Christ, we should close one or two and get rid of them.

No, you shouldn't do that.

I'd say that depends on how much debt is on them, how old the card he wants to close is and how much he uses it.

I have four cards right now. I only really use two (the only charge on one of them is my Comcast bill). The other two are just old, so I don't want to get rid of them.

3 CCs (2 to maximize my cash back, 1 left at $0 balance for maximum credit score).
1 Store card (to get a good deal).

Too many cards won't probably harm your credit score in the long term. It will harm it short term as you keep applying it'll make small short term dings. However, credit score isn't the only part of the picture. People have the inaccurate perception that credit score is all that matters. Someone doing a check on you might not trust you as much if you have the ability to rack up massive debt (ie have too many cards around). This could be a bank (for a loan), potential employer, potential landlord, etc.
