As I remember, (it was in 1971-72), it was green, and full of vietcong/NVA regulars...which is why we were there...;) Otherwise, it didn't look that much different than the rest of that part of the world. I visited Vientiane a couple of times, and found it to be a charming city. (largest "village" in Asia) Most of the people were friendly to US troops, and we were treated well.

though i don't have a passport stamp from canada or mexico (for obvious reasons) or for brazil (because i crossed over the amazon from colombia by boat)

I liked all of them in some way, but Laos is probably the most beautiful country I've seen. Tibet has a real rugged beauty to it. India and China are amazing because of their history, size and diversity. Cambodia has Ankor which I'll say is the single most impressive place I've ever been.

Ah.. stupid me I'm too young for that. My visit to Vietnam was a few months ago for tourism, I hope to go back to Southeast Asia soon. I doubt much has changed there though, aside from the Vietcong/NVA regulars.
