How many computers can connect to a wireless router?

Is there a limit to the number of computers that can access a wireless router? If I have 4 physical ports, can I only make 4 connections?

My roommate's computer, my two computers, my work laptop and my Xbox could all conceivably be connected to it at one time, so I wanted to know if this would be possible.

Any router will be able to handle what you are proposing. I wouldn't worry about it unless you are doing alot of data transfer or dl'ing music you should have a pretty stable connection. That is unless you are using a belkin (POS).

Most of the Wireless Router can handle more then 100 computers.

What would happen to the Bandwidth is another story.

For Internet surfing you should assume 1-2Mb/sec. per computer. For File transfer more.

5 clients on weak 802.11b Nah. Good 802.11b 5 clients stretching the limit.

Good 802.11g would be OK for 5 clients.

However, YMMV it depends on local variables.

why don't you just have the people connect via ethernet. I wouldn't have people over for a lan party and rely on wifi. It may work but it will most likely cause problems.

As jst0ney stated, use Ethernet for the Lan Party. Pick up a cheap 8-port pocket switch and plug it into the router, you get another 6 ports out of it.
