I started building PC's back when the Pentiums first came out... just too many to mention individually. I'm guessing that overall I have built at least 500 systems.

My latest personal system is a...

Athlon XP 1800
512 DDR
1 40 gig Maxtor 7200 ATA100
2 Seagate 'Cuda 20 gigs on RAID-0
Radeon 8500
Antec SX630 Case
SB Live! (old sucka still not dead :p)
KDS195e (this too is a couple of yrs old... but still good)
WinXP Pro

Viper GTS

I rarely build from scratch, I've built less than 10 from scratch.

However, mine is continuously evolving. So while it's never been a completely new system, it's been changed many, many times.

I've never been employed as a computer tech. Probably built 20+ in past 7 years.

On my third system in the last year. Let me say don't mix a mother 8kha+ing son of a radeon 8500 unless you have a strong power supply. It hurts...

I dunno.. maybe a 1,000.. maybe more..maybe less but a whole lot*. First one was a 486DX33 W/ a 256K ISA Video Card, 4 megs of ram
(4 X 1 meg sims), Floppy and probably a 200+ meg hard drive and case. Sold it for a profit too. Computer sh!t was expensive back then. 4 meg Sims were probably $200.00 each.

*I use to work for a shop that would build hundereds a week for Schools, Government agencies and such.

Hmm, I've "assembled" (I don't have a few hundred million dollar manufacturing plant to actually "build" my own) upwards of 40-something computers. I suppose I've upgraded a few dozen more...I lost count.

The first system I ever assembled was, IIRC:

FIC PT-2003 Mainboard (Intel 430FX)
Intel Pentium 133MHz
32MB SIMM
Tseng Labs ET6000 2MB Video
Yamaha OPL3 ISA Sound Card
Seagate 2.5Gig HDD
Same damned floppy drive used today
Mitsumi 8x CD-ROM
USR 28.8 Fax Modem
Microsoft serial mouse
Win95B
Enlight AT case w/ 200w PS

And it kicked butt!

First: 386DX33 with some crappy ISA card (the 386 was actually an AMD processor)
Second: 486DX2/66 with a VESA local bus card (anyone remember those???)
Third: Pentium 133 with Matrox Millenium PCI (later upgraded to AMD K6-200)
Fourth: AMD K6-2 500 for myself
Fifth: AMD K6-2 500 for my parents
Sixth: Athlon XP-1600 for myself
Seventh: Athlon XP-1600 for my gf's mother
Eighth: Athlon 800 at work (university)
Ninth: Another AMD K6-2 500 at work

That should cover it.
Only PC I ever bought - my 286-12MHz (woohoo)

EDIT: one typing/spelling mistake

ahh, VLB was king before PCI came into the picture... i remember wanting to get this video card, Black widow or something.. forgot who made it, but was advertised in computer currents/microtimes.. back then, all i had was a pre-built 486dx/33 that my family got at a small pc shop in milpitas, ca. which didnt have VLB ... thank god everything's alot cheaper.
