It should be the other way around. Adding muscle will help you burn fat. Muscle at rest still needs energy to live. Fat doesn't. A pound of fat will just sit there and do nothing. A pound of muscle will use energy just sitting there.

I recommend adding muscle first, and that will help you burn the fat.
