How many burns on a DVD burner?

How many disks do you expect to be able to burn using, for example, a Liteon DVD burner before it's toast? That is, it's just physically worn out.

saw a Ricoh 5125 die(stopped reading/writing DVDs ..still does CDs tho) at approx. 750-800 ..had a Benq DW800A expire(errored/coastered about 5-7 DVD blanks) at about 1520..as always..ymmv 🙂

ive burnt well over 400 DVDs on my Plextor 708a and it still spits them out in 8min just like always

I expect mine to burn good until I sell it or it becomes obsolete, whichever comes first. 🙂

As for your lite-on burner it will die soon since it's crap to begin with. 😉

😀

I never thought about DVD burners giving out before. Scary thought is: would the data you burn before it dies get corrupted because the burner is about fail?

I don't know about liteon, but I burn my dvd's in a 55 gall. drum out back and I suppose it would last several years.

Over 450 on my Pioneer. I'm going to replace it just because I want a faster burner.

yeah, most likely no one will ever know because they get upgraded so often. There should be a MTBF rating somewhere on the device. If should give you an idea of how long it would theoretically last.

Thanks for the responses. I don't like MTBF figures, they are extrapolated and don't really tell you how many actual disks you can get out of a drive.
