How many burns on a DVD burner?

How many disks do you expect to be able to burn using, for example, a Liteon DVD burner before it's toast? That is, it's just physically worn out.

you would have to find out the average life of the laser and then the average time the laser was on during a burn to calculate the average number of burns it would take to "toast" itself...but technically if it can't burn anymore, it can't become toast 😛

I'd expect the mechanical part to die before anything else. I've seen MTBF ratings, but that doesn't tell me the approximate number of disks to expect.
