Ok but can +12V1 and +12V2 be combined if something needs more than 20 amps or will the Power Supply do this automatically?

When they rate a motherboard or something as needing 30A on the 12V rail they are figuring that there will be many other devices using the 12V power. Having 2 rails reduces that load and therefore that rating is really not relevant anymore.

Reply with your hardware specs and people here can give feedback as to whether this will power it or not.

Will that power supply in my first post link run this pc fine please? If so how much room for upgrading will the power supply has as well would you say? A lot, medium amount, or very little?

It should work fine. I would say you have a medium/small amount of headroom depending on how many hard drives you will have and if you have other add on cards you didn't mention.

Yes I will be adding 1 maxtor 200 gig 7200 rpm hard drive, I think my santa cruz sound card, inless I just want to use the onboard sound card though I don't think, and my NEC DVD-RW drive. I may add my old plextor cd-rw drive as well. Only maybe though. I don't think I will though. I may just keep it for my old pc that I will make into a hptc with a horrible case at the moment. So I may take out the tv tuner card and instead put it on the old pc I am on now. So that should free up a little bit of resources but not a noticeable amount I am sure.

Should that be ok ?

What if I want to upgrade in the future how much room do I have?

You can use a power supply calculator and see how much more you could add. Just search google for extreme power supply calculator and you should find it. It seems that you might be pushing the border if you add that much more. However, you should still be fine for the configuration you currently have.

I am pushing the border by adding my NEC DVD-RW drive and my Maxtor 200 gig 7200 rpm hard drive ?

Remember the tv tuner card should not being going in this system.

Does this mean I have 40 amps on my v12 rail or can it not be combined?

The maximum combined capability of the +12V rail is only 30A.

This particular unit actually has split +12V rails with a 20A OCP that will trip the PSU when exceeded. This unit has no capability to "merge" rails in the event of an overload.

I personally think you'll be stressing that PSU out with the 8800GTS. It works now, but it probably runs pretty hot, no?

I don't have the system yet. If need be I will cancel the order and get a better power supply if I need to.

Are you sure its 20Amps ? Its not 30 Amps?

Wtf. Why do you keep creating threads about everything? I have also answered your question in your other thread.

Each of the 2 12 V rails can deliver up to 20 A. Additionally, the current drawn from both rails combined can be up to 30 A. But you wouldn't be able to get 20 A out of both simultaneously (for a total of 40 A).

Ok so will the video card in my system specs work fine with this Power Supply or will the system be unstable or not boot up ?

It will almost certainly be OK.
One test system
Power draw of that system

300W is the max it uses under stress, and I presume that's at the wall, so the actual power draw on the PSU (when you account for efficiency) is unlikely to be much more than 250~275w.
Your mobo and CPU will also draw less power than the ones in the test system. (Up to 25W under load for the mobo, and >10W for the CPU)
So almost certainly the maximum power draw under load for your system will be <250W, so a 400W PSU should be reasonably capable of handling that without issue.

Although that psu will work, I'd say you are pushing your luck because in your current rig it will be running at roughly 80% rated power output a lot of the time & that will put a lot of strain on it.

Personally I prefer to have a fair amount more output then my system needs & would use a 500 watt'er like this Enhance ENP-5150G 500W instead ... costs $16 less & is a better psu.
