I remember after my first year of college there was a whole flood of chips

Intel PII
AMD had the K6
Cyrix had the M2
IDP was it had the Winchip

were there others? I remember going to a computer store and was like seessh so many freaking choices

weren't the IBM chips the exact same as the Cyrix?

DIdn't Cyrix contract it's IBM to make the chip until National Semi-conductor bought Cyrix and destroyed the company?

The Cyrix "6x86" chips were actually 5x86 class chips. It competed with the Intel Pentium MMX, AMD K5 and NexGen 5x86. It also ran on Intel compatible socket 7 motherboards that held the Pentium and K5 chips.

They all had the Pentium's P54C/P55C pinouts.
